I found this interesting analysis of the Japanese earthquake at the atomic engineering forum. It has photos so i post the link
Was the Japanese earthquake triggered by Japanese atomic bomb test detonation?

I’m no expert but common sense tells me that one would have to go down a ridiculous depth and place a nuke in a very precise position to trigger an earthquake and even then I’m not sure such precision is possible given that nobody on Earth can predict earthquakes.

Do you think the Japanese were testing nuclear weapons back in 1923, when an earthquake killed 140,000? I’ll bet someone at the physics forum could explain about plate tectonics.

They were not around during the 1950's and 1960's.
If they were right, Nevada and Southern Siberia would be now folded into the center of the earth.

Welcome to FR. I am sure that the article about Nuclear Engineers discussing a nuclear bomb test would have been interesting, and probably would have had a few tin foil hats tossed in the thread.
Please correct the link. I have not seen the most recent tin foil hats displayed. After all, fashions do change periodically.

My wife had an interesting theory. If you suddenly pop up the North American plate, you might get a cavity or two below that water could drain into. The other theory is that the crutal motion that produced the tsunami also created large turbulence with crosscurrents, not unlike tornado formation, hence a funnel. I like the cavity theory because it’s scarier, but the turbulence theory is probably correct.

I’ve been just waiting for some numbnut to come out and say that “Fat Man” and “Little Boy” led to the earthquake.

The first naval reactor using nuclear power was started in 1953. There have been no nuclear accidents on US Naval vessels ever.

That reminded me of something. The Russians always ruin it for everybody. ;-)
