I think it's just as likely his gunrunning, if your scenario is right, is aimed at destabilizing Mexico and bringing a FARC-like narco-Leftist junta aligned with the Chavez-Castro-Zelaya bloc in Latin politics to power in Mexico. Eventually "we will be in El Paso" (line from Arnaud DeBorchgrave's Monimbo'), but not quite yet -- first they have to get total, preclusive control of Mexico City.

Second thought .... maybe they have ideas about luring us into a ruinous, Afghanistan-style national intervention in Mexico, to try to prevent the entire country's falling into the hands of the narcos, which would radicalize Mexicans and Latin Americans everywhere against us.
