The baby who was hours from being pulled off life support at his Canadian hospital has been rescued by the national director of Priests for Life and taken to the U.S. for treatment.
Thirteen-month-old Joseph Maraachli, who is currently kept alive by a respirator and was recently denied a transfer to a Michigan hospital to undergo a tracheotomy, arrived in the U.S. early Monday morning with Fr. Frank Pavone and other Priests for Life staff.
"Priests for Life staff toiled through the night for many nights, working in concert with dozens of people to make this possible," Father Pavone said in a statement. "Now that we have won the battle against the medical bureaucracy in Canada, the real work of saving Baby Joseph can begin."
Maraachli was on his way to SSM Cardinal Glennon Children's Medical Center in St. Louis, Mo., a non-profit health-care facility open to all children in need of medical care.

He washed his hands of her, imho.
Governor Jeb Bush will forever be linked to Pontius Pilate. He had the means and authority to rescue Terri Schiavo. He said he was going to. Then he read the polls that falsely stated the voters were in favor of killing her, so he washed his hands of her. If he had known that in reality only about 8% of people were opposed to her right to live, he would have spared her life. Not because it was the right thing to do, but because it would help him politically. He guessed wrong. It cost Terri her life, and it cost him his career. It should have cost him more.
I agree. It sure is nice to have something to celebrate today. WOO HOO!!!
It was quite ironic to spend Holy Week six years ago watching Bush, Crist and Greer auditioning for the roles of Pilate, Caiaphas and Judas.
Exactly.
You would think any man holding the office of governor would go out of his way not to emulate the most infamous governor in the history of the world.
You’d think.
I’m thinking that biblical scholarship is not one of Jeb’s long suits.
Florida ConstitutionArticle One
SECTION 2. Basic rights. All natural persons, female and male alike, are equal before the law and have inalienable rights, among which are the right to enjoy and defend life and liberty, to pursue happiness, to be rewarded for industry, and to acquire, possess and protect property; except that the ownership, inheritance, disposition and possession of real property by aliens ineligible for citizenship may be regulated or prohibited by law. No person shall be deprived of any right because of race, religion, national origin, or physical disability.
-----
U.S. Constitution
"No person shall be deprived of life without due process of law."
"No State shall deprive any person of life without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws."
I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support, protect, and defend the Constitution and Government of the United States and of the State of Florida; that I am duly qualified to hold office under the Constitution of the state; and that I will well and faithfully perform the duties of Governor on which I am now about to enter. So help me God.
That’s why they lie and claim that disabled people are dead. Corpses aren’t entitled to the same rights as people.
Yeah. That’s why the disabled folks who showed up in front of the hospice and flopped themselves onto the pavement in protest called themselves “We’re Not Dead Yet.”
This is why the thought of Jeb running for president is somewhat nauseating.
God bless Father Pavone!
Why does anyone like to bash Catholics?
I am a Catholic myself, love my church, but I never bash others’ religions. There are people on this forum bashing Catholics?
Odd. Muslims I can see, but Catholics?
God Bless the Priests for Life group. Even if Baby Joseph doesn’t make it, his parents have the right to be with him and get the best medical attention possible. Joseph was not being given that by the Canadian medical staff. God Bless Baby Joseph with a long life.
Good News in a very troubled world.
When they (or someone in their family) becomes one of the most fragile patients.
Most of the fools who support this nonsense have the, "it won't affect me mentality.
Congress left themselves a great loophole, even if they wound up in the highly unlikely situation that they would be subject to the rules they force on everyone else:
Special exceptions and exclusions are allowed -- with congressional approval.
