Not saying you don't shop at grocery stores, but there is no way food is up only 3% to 4%. I personally do think things are as bad as the 70's. So much is different now that the problems are being masked, at least for the time being.
So what's different now? For starters, both parents typically work, food stamps are now very easy to get, more fuel efficient cars and the ability to telecommute, craig's list makes buying second hand easier, and more options where to spend your grocery dollars - from warehouse clubs to walmart to dollar stores.
