He is the PFC who stole confidential military and state department information and passed it to Julian Assange (Wikileaks). I have no idea what the "controversial statements" were that Crowley made, but controversial to the Obama White House would probably involve opining that Manning committed treason.

The man in question said he objected to the way Manning was being treated. Called holding him in isolation, depriving him of sleep, and forcing him to be naked “counterproductive and stupid”.

Obama is still continuing his weird poltical stratgey of trying really hard to win over hawks (which is never going to happen) while ticking off the doves (whom he needs to vote for him in 2012).

Evidently Crowley didn’t know the Won had just made an announcement that he asked about Manning’s treatment and said it was just fine. When Crowley shot his mouth off and found out dear leader had announced that it must have a huge “Uh Oh” moment for him. LOL!
