A volcano in southwestern Japan erupted Sunday after nearly two weeks of relative silence, sending ash and rocks up to four kilometres (two and a half miles) into the air, a local official says.
It was not immediately clear if the eruption was a direct result of the massive 8.9-magnitude earthquake that rocked northern areas Friday, unleashing a fierce tsunami and sparking fears that more than 10,000 may have been killed.

What the hell are you all talking about? I was comparing these events to the trajedy one feels when watching something unfold. You all took my quote out of context. Sheesh..
I don’t mean as cause of death...I mean where they end up. They’ve already stated there is a huge debris field some distance off shore.
“That is just nature. You need to brush up on your geology.”
Probably. I spent my semester in Earth Science trying to get a date with Susan Schwartz.

Just finished reading an opinion by an astrophysicist that the massive Coronal Mass Ejection (CME) from the sun a couple weeks ago may well have been the trigger.
Some also say that in years of solar minimums (few sunspots) there is more seismic and volcanic activity due to decrease of electromagnetic and geomagnetic waves that help stabilize the Earth.
