A volcano in southwestern Japan erupted Sunday after nearly two weeks of relative silence, sending ash and rocks up to four kilometres (two and a half miles) into the air, a local official says.
It was not immediately clear if the eruption was a direct result of the massive 8.9-magnitude earthquake that rocked northern areas Friday, unleashing a fierce tsunami and sparking fears that more than 10,000 may have been killed.

10,000 estimated. I'll wait for the official final number before having a reaction.

Those eruptions over the past 2 months may have been an early warning of the earthquake to come.
The earth’s crust seems to be in unusual upheaval the past few years. It’s always active, but moreso than normal?

It's called Plate Tectonics.
It happens 24 hours a day, and seven days a week for billions of years.
Quite.
Only has more impact on our way of life because there are so many people on earth now. And so many of us choose to live at the coast and are therefore vulnerable to tsunamis.
That said....may God bless the people of Japan and help them deal with this catastrophe.

They will be making up stories that global warming caused volcanoes and earthquake. One story was about a first eruption in 52 years and another story on a volcano erupted 10 times this year. One story says this is just like Chernobyl except the forget to tell us that no reactor has had the containment blown open. They sure like to make things up to sell papers.

I believe that America must do everything possible to spare the Japanese from Charlie Sheen (in his present form). Bad enough we have to deal with him.

I lived in Japan for over a year as a college student. Less than one half of one percent of the population believe in Christ. I don't portend to know the mind of God in this matter, but my prayer is that the Japanese people as a whole will find Christ through this tragedy. I pray the veil will be lifted and the truth would be revealed.

It appears Japan is suffering its own localized apocalypse. They’ve suffered an earthquake, aftershocks that are the magnitude of most major quakes, a tsunami, a meltdown (with the possible of more) and now a volcanic eruption. I wouldn’t wish this on anyone and I hope the Japanese are able to survive.

Are you referring to our
Al Gore Ice Age.
He was almost frozen in Cozumel, Mexico. He brought some of the coldest temperatures there that has ever been recorded.
Or are you referring to the HOT AIR GENERATED BY AL GORE SPEECHES
Admittedly, the hot air from politicians like him will create a devastating heat change...
