From what I have read, certain reactor designs are a lot safer and more reliable than others. Some of the newer ones are virtually impossible to have a meltdown with because of how the fuel is shaped and how the control mechanisms work. Generally speaking the newer designs from the 1980s onward are a lot better than older reactor designs. Our problem here is that most of our reactors are older designs because eco-nuts have not let the safer, better designs be built.

Check out the design features of the pebble bed reactor,,, looks disaster proof to me.

I did not realize that the newer reactors were so much safer. I can’t believe we have let the eco nuts run rampant all over us for so many years. As far as I’m concerned they have caused a lot more harm then good. They have just about wreaked our economy.
