Andrea Sloan took over as Rachel’s guardian, and removed Rachel to a nursing home in Millersville, Maryland. The Times reported that the hospital then offered to pay for Rachel’s nursing home care, but had never extended this offer to Rachel’s family before Sloan took over as guardian.

It looks like Georgetown is backing down, which is wonderful news.

Maybe if her sons with masters degrees would pay the bill they would not need lawyers. If they cannot pay the bill they should care for dear old mom at home.

That is probably against rwandan custom evidently.

Tough situation. However, who is going to pay for this? Could this be why we are in debt up to our eye balls? She can’t afford medical insurance????? WTF? No wonder Obama is trying to push through Obamacare. So many people feel the need to not have insurance. UGH!!!! On the other hand, I am 100 percent pro-life and that includes the poor folks who don’t have insurance. UGH! God sure made a dilemma for me. I will take the pro-life stance and will just eat dog food when I am ancient due to this women not having insurance. Life is sure great.

Please tell us your monetary contribution to help keep this woman alive.

Did you contact the hospital to render your support?

Please tell us your support is not limited to a thread.

While this event is tragic..unfettered immigration will be our doom.

She explained her reasoning for having the feeding tube removed to the Times in an e-mail: “Generically speaking, what gives any one family or person the right to control so many scarce health care resources in a situation where the prognosis is poor, and to the detriment of others who may actually benefit from them?”

a death panel of one.

So the Georgetown University Hospital that was gigged for eight months of intensive health care, running a minimum $2K a day that they will never see reimbursed, is painted as the villain, and that’s wonderful?

I never read where her family offered to pay Georgetown one dime to cover their mother’s care, but they sure knew how to run to the press and get coverage. Sorry for this woman’s plight but Georgetown Hospital is not the villain.

Generally, U.S. health insurance is employer-based, and not portable for an individual that switches jobs. >>>>

this should change now that the republicans took over the House.....I hope they introduce more legislation to make it easier for the consumer including the purchasing of insurance offered in other states than in the one you reside..
