Nuclear Plant To Vent Air ['Pressure levels have risen dangerously.']

Air that may contain radioactive materials will be vented from a nuclear power plant in quake-stricken Fukushima Prefecture. The Tokyo Electric Power Company has decided to release air from the reactor's containment vessels, aiming to avoid their breakdown.

The company issued a warning about its Fukushima Number One Plant early on Saturday morning. It said the pressure value for the reactor's containment vessels had risen, and that if the value was correct, the vessels could break down.

Tokyo Electric says the amount of air to be released will be small and that it will notify residents near the plant before it starts releasing the air. The company says it will check the amount of radioactive materials in the air before the release.

Earlier, the government issued an evacuation advisory to people living within a 3-kilometer radius of the Fukushima Number One plant.

"Nuclear Plant To Vent Air ['Pressure levels have risen dangerously.'] "

Not actually funny, but it reminds me of a funny Simpsons episode where Homer got on disability by being grossly overweight. He manages to prevent the release of toxic radioactive gas by plugging a hole with his massive girth.

"Yeah, and I'm amazed for once that Dad's butt actually prevented the release of toxic g..." "Bart!"

Bernanke will flood the reactor core with USDs...that ought to cool it down pretty fast.

Smacking self in head - this is no laughing matter. I Must be suffering from disaster fatigue...or something.

Prayers will be said in this house for all those in danger.

Imagine if the US Gov’t had to do this.

The announcement of how much radioactive dust released would be issued by the same people who publish our unemployment, inflation and economic data. YIKES!

We are talking about the same country that we dropped two A-bombs on 65 years ago, right? Could it be worse than THAT?

The air probably contains a small amount of Xenon. Plants vent this from time to time. It’s used in radioimaging for people sometimes.

Naturally the press will go ballistic and will play it up without ever saying what it is exactly or how much. If they told us that we could look it up ourselves and make our own conclusions.

Each square represents a separate quake — including both aftershocks and one or more “unrelated” quakes on the west side of Honshu. The bigger the square the bigger the quake.

Good point.

They’re used to it. This will be like ragweed pollen to them.
