and the DUmmies are prepared to go berzerk on Barry if he even mentions changing SS or Medicare.
Oh, yeah. We’re headed for a shutdown.
Hey there, wait a minute, bucko....just a few weeks ago I saw the illustrious Harry Reid on TV telling me that S.S. is good and solvent for the next 50 years & there is no problem. Are you saying that Harry lied to me???????
Social Security and "Union Busting" are the dims line in the sand.
They will fight to their dying breath over either of them. They will use any/all means necessary to preserve them.
For, without them, the democrat party ceases to exist.
Yeah, he knows it will be nigh impossible to take something away after it's been given to them. All one has to do is look at the recent Wisconsin experience.
Just another means to further redistribution of wealth from the producers to the consumers.
“Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell warned on Friday that GOP senators will not vote to increase the government’s borrowing limit unless President Barack Obama agrees to rein in Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid, laying down a high-stakes marker just weeks before the debt ceiling is reached.”
Only time will tell if Mitchie will stand his ground like the Wis. governor or if he will instead fold like a cheap suit.
Of course, Mitch didn’t say how much “entitlement” spending he would demand to be cut.
Nevertheless, I’ll give him credit for saying the right thing and hope for the best. I’d just have a better feeling about this if Jim DeMint were Minority Leader.
No, we are not headed for a showdown. Let the GOP play small ball for the next few weeks on the CRs to find their footing.
Then, with the debt ceiling and FY12 budget in April, Obama has two choices:
1. Default - for which he will be blamed OR
2. Accept huge spending cuts and entitlement reform for successive generations.
As weak as this recovery is, Obama cannot accept option 1. Hardball is coming - the next few months will be among the momentous months in many decades - probably since Reagan in 1981.
If Obama allows a default, his presidency is OVER.
Big deal...
There is a group of people on here that bash people even when they do things they agree with. There was a thread a several months ago about McConnell wherein he was quoted as being in complete disagreement about Obama’s comments that it was government’s role to create jobs through spending. Several people replied blasting McConnell for saying it was government’s role to create jobs, when of course he had said the exact opposite. Some people just like being perpetually angry - if they there is not a legitimate reason to be angry they will invent a reason.
Entitlements are going to eat us.
And the liberal plan of making more entitlements for more people is not helping.
Progre$$ivism don’t come cheap!
14 Trillion today.. at least 20 in no time at this rate.
one more term of Obamanomics and I’d say 25 isn’t far behind
and then? He’s gone, Hope . Change, Gone.
America is in deep, serious trouble and Repubs do NOT inspire with the current “leadership”. Americans hired Repubs last November to STOP Obama, but the Repubs behave like timid rabbits when they should act like lions.
The Repubs are afraid the MSM won't like them; they are afraid they won't be asked to go golfing with the Donkeys or to the hot parties in DC. Both Boehner and McConnell are too conciliatory to the damned Donkeys.
These are political whores who will try to look like they're doing something on one hand, but are selling America out on the other. Bluntly, the Repubs past track record is NOT good.
First Gross, now Yu.

Exactly!
You think these inside the Beltway politicians have a clue what the voters voted for in November 2010? No, because their political buddies and DC lobbyists are what's important to them (their thinking).
We voters understand that is wrong, but these old dinosaurs are programmed to think and behave this way. They will not change unless terrified of losing their cushy jobs.
You assume more than you know.
No. Hope over experience doesn’t cut it.
This is a war for the life of America and it won’t be won by wishy-washy-squishy-spineless-swarmy moderates.
You know the kind, those who are so flexible and nuanced on the issues they are spherical.
I think our guys know they have to do something different this time.
