Crescent City, Calif. (AP) --

A tsunami triggered by the massive earthquake in Japan reached California's coast Friday morning, causing surges that shook some boats loose from docks as beach-area residents throughout the state evacuated to higher ground.

The tide began rising shortly after 7:30 a.m. along beaches in Crescent City, near the Oregon border, where the tsunami was expected to hit the hardest in California. Officials predicted that waves could reach as high as 7 feet there.

Local officials activated tsunami warning sirens in Del Norte and Humboldt counties at dawn, and sheriff's deputies went door to door in Crescent City at dawn to urge residents in low-lying areas to seek higher ground.

By mid-morning, waves were crashing against the 30-foot bluffs, as residents gathered on the overlooks to witness the spectacle. . . .

We must immediately rush $500 trillion to California to help them recover from this calamity.

Oddly enough my first thought was how the Rats were going to use this the funnel money into CA to bail Brown out. That might be too cynical though.

The Cascadia Subduction Zone (aka fault) runs from Vancouver south through the coasts of Washingon, Oregon, and Northern Cali. It separates two large tectonic plates, the Juan de Fuca (which I always pronounce very carefully) and the North American Plate.

When (not if), when it gives it might well be a major seismic and ocean wave generating event. ("major" being, perhaps and understatement.)

No sweat.

I know you’re usually up to speed and following Jesus, prepared etc.

I forget what region you’re in, however. I need to get a map and put pins in it for my FREEPER LOVED ONES.

Much agree. I think we have a Freeper right on the Northern tip of that penensila or island on the southern part of the strait. I forget who it is. Wouldn’t want to live where they live at all.

For all the hardships I am happy to see warning systems go into effect so smoothly. Sirens, door to door checks, etc. Kudos.

Yes, lots of emergency response challenges for the length of the Cascadia SD. Many isolated communities and other potential response “issues”.
