Sad stuff. Looks like this time the Tsunami hits Hawaii unlike after the Chile earthquake.

There have been a number of large earthquakes over the past week or so. Something’s happening and it doesn’t sound good. Most were in the South Pacific. China also had a 5.4, I think it was yesterday and it collapsed something like 1000 structures and killed 24 people.

NOTE TO SELF: When you see the ocean pull back 300+ meters leaving the reef exposed, RUN LIKE HELL for high ground!

Hawaiian emergency officials reminded residents that tsunami evacuation maps can be found in front of their telephone directories.
I use those as fire starter.
Prayers to all in harm's way. Stay safe and head for high ground. I have close family on Oahu, but their house is up high.

No no no. I live one block from the ocean in the tsunami zone and have been glued to the TV all night while I had everything ready to run for it but it did hit but only a couple of feet above normal. (thank God) Big scare for all of us here in Hawaii though. I am on Maui and it has been an hour since the first signs hit us. No big waves and no damage at all on any of the islands that I have heard of.

Forgot to mention that we had a 4.5 earthquake last night our selves. It was on the south side of the Big Island. No one even paid any attention to that with an expected tsunami coming in from Japan.

At 3:30 a.m., television images in Honolulu showed an increase in water coming ashore. Like ... dude ... SURF'S UP! ;-)

They did have a bit of a tsunami wave after the Chile quake, but it wasn’t harmful. We watched it, pretty interesting watching the water recede and come back in, for quite awhile.

This is bad news for some Hawaiians.
The wealthy leftists live along the shores of that state.

About a year ago all the islands did evacuations...the tsunami ended up being about 3 inches high...I was there and there was no noticeable difference in usual wave activity.
This also will likely not amount to much.

I have watching the local Hawaiian TV station streams. Local personnel are somewhat miffed that the national networks, FOX, CNN, etc. are using disastrous words regarding the tsunami: pounded, slapped, and so forth. So far, the waves are pretty mild and nothing like the networks--the same ones that gave us two weeks worth of panic and hysteria on the bird flu--are reporting.
