Ships are OK, the tsunami is a ripple at deep sea, I knew some folk that were scuba diving during the big tsunami. What I worry about are the Marshall Islands, Majuro, Kwajelein, Kosrae, Phonpei, Johnston, Guam, Truk, Yap, Saipan, Midway, etc. Those are low lying atolls, could be pretty bad.

I thought I heard that a tsunami travels underwater when way out....it’s when it hits shallower water that it rises...or unloads its “steam”

No problem. The ocean rises some but it is not a significant wave per say. The size of the wave dramatically increases as the energy comes ashore in the shallow water.

Exactly what cornfedcowboy said. Fascinating how a tsunami can travel up to 550 MPH underwater and a ship barley notices it.
