Mrs. Obama was gaining a lot of traction as the fashion icon for the everywoman when all of a sudden she stepped out of the Michellemobile – reportedly Monday – grasping a $1,000 tote bag.

$1000.00 is a lot of money, but I have several distinctly middle class friends who have bags that cost that much or more. Ridiculous? Perhaps. But many women love handbags.
Wake me when she buys a Hermes Birkin or something similar.
A $1000 handbag is not expensive. If it is quality and it lasts for many years, it is a better deal than cheap bags that wear out from poor quality construction. It is much less wasteful to buy quality.

I am distinctly middle class and have a clothes and accessory thing. I shop very smart and own some really nice stuff. I have a Chanel and an LV that both cost more than that bag.....they look better too.

It is to someone whose budget only allows $50 for a purse. You don’t think $1,000 is expensive for a handbag??? I’ve never spent more than $50 and have gotten some pretty nice ones on sale at Carson’s, Kohls. Where do you shop lol?
I thought the days were over when your shoes had to match your bag. At least that’s what I’ve read in magazines. They also say panty hose are very outdated. Guess everyone’s supposed to go bare legged in order to fit in with the crowd, whether you have nice leg skin/color or not.
A good coach or Dooney and burke bag might go for a couple hundred...we usually get them used or on Ebay because they last forever.
