Yes, and I used a credit card, not a debit card. No problem. However, car rentals are one of the relatively few places where cash is spurned. Unless you have to travel frequently (i.e. business) cash is still accepted without question.
Try making a big purchase with cash (and not looking Hispanic). Cops get called. Happened to guy I used to work with when he tried to pay cash on a house (not a check, cash).
