Call it patriotic adultery.

Presidential hopeful Newt Gingrich has claimed that he had an affair with a colleague because his love of country made him work too hard. The twice-divorced Republican politician was married to his second wife Ginther when he embarked on an affair in the mid-90s with blonde Castilla Bisek, who is 23-years his junior.

(snip)

'There's no question at times of my life, partially driven by how passionately I felt about this country, that I worked far too hard and things happened in my life that were not appropriate,' Gingrich told The Christian Broadcasting Network.

Why didn’t Bill Clinton think of that?

Bill Clinton's not that stupid. I'm surprised that Newt would say that.

When it comes right down to it Newt is not a very good politician

I would have disagreed with you until I just read this story. Wow! What an explanation.

Newt’s chances just went from infinitesimal to zero.

Newt is universally acknowledged to be both brilliant and a great “idea” man. He would make mince meat of Obama in any debate. But his personal “baggage” is now too great for him to be a serious contender against Obama. Forget about his three marriages - his recent “conversion” to Roman Catholicism now represents the most cynical ploy since John Kerry’s “I voted for it before it before I was against it.”
