They [i.e., the power companies] should have to prove need, not greed.

Yep, let's stick our heads in the sand, bitch about how we've lost textile mills and other jobs, but not "export" the surplus power we ourselves don't need. Instead, let's just let that power go to waste. Good thinking, you chlorophyl-brained idiot.

I guess I should have included some comments here so that people might read the article before going off ranting and insulting.

I have been following a FR for 7 or 8 years now, I go into hives when it is down. Yes my screen name is Harry Pothead, no I no longer smoke it (20 years ago last time?). I do however think it is funny and have been tempted to get rid of it, but resisted so far.

I am anything but a tree hugger, but am avid outdoorsman, LOVE New Hampshire, own land 5 miles from Canada. My neighbors in NH think I am a tea party nut, I think of myself as a “nuckle dragging conservative”.

The North Country of New Hampshire is remote and beautiful. It takes a 4 hour drive for me to get there, and I go every weekend. I have spent 5 weekends at home in the last year.

A Quebec power company wants to put 150 foot towers down the middle of NH for power in MA. In the short term land owners will get payment, there will be some tax benefit for towns, but the long term damage to property values and tourist attraction will be devastating.

NH is a net exporter of power, why do we need to wreck our country side for the people of MA? Is it our fault they (I live in MA) continue to elect clueless Dems that hobble the energy industry at every turn?

Put a nuclear plant in your own back yard, don’t wreck mine.
