Before Rep. Peter King was holding hearings into why American Muslims aren't doing enough to stop terrorism, he was cheering on the IRA and absolving them of "moral blame" for their terrorism. In the 1980s and 1990s, King unequivocally supported the militant Northern Irish group despite its history of killing civilians, speaking at protests staged by Noraid, which the U.S. government claimed funneled guns and money to the IRA.

“First they ban smoking in Irish pubs, then grant honorary knighthood to a murdering pig that never understood the concept of honor. Way to go, England.”
The Republic of Ireland isn’t under English or British jurisdiction and has been as independent of the Westminster government for over seven decades.
They banned smoking in pubs before ANYWHERE in the United Kingdom did it. Blair got the idea from the Irish, not the other way round.
I completely agree with you and would prefer him to do so. But I do allow for a possibility that he is undergoing a change. Perhaps it will ultimately lead to what you and I would like to see --- repentance and renouncination, and not merely a change of mind.
It IS true, as has been known for a long time.
I do not believe that the IRA are a bunch of nice guys. I believe that they are a bunch of killers and murderers. I also believe that they and the muslims have a marriage of conveince so far as killing people goes.
I do know that this would have never been made public with King if he had not gone after the muslims.
And the leftists supported slavery, segregation, lynchings, Stalin, Hitler, Mao and Pol Pot.
So what’s your point, commie?
As far as the IRA goes, I can't support any of their crap. You'll be noticin' though, how quickly they came around after 9/11, when the real enemy to our civilization was pointed out to them rather grapically. I recall thinking at the time that their rapid stand-down was quite remarkable.
No doubt, this has been highlighted because of King’s stance on the hearings.
who are you calling a commie, bub.
The IRA was in league with the communists. Anybody who supported the IRA deserves to be shamed, including Congressjerk King.
i think this is a legitimate news story. Couldn’t the GOP find somebody to lead the anti-terrorism committee who wasn’t a supporter of terrorists?
Let me explain FR posting etiquette to you.
As the OP of this thread, posts directed to you are aimed at the news story, article, opinion piece, etc. that you posted - not to you personally.
Capisce?
Was the IRA fighting a civil war with the British for separation, or where they exporting terrorism globally to all countries they entered in order to dominate and subjugate?

The IRA targeted civilians. That’s the definition of terrorism. They bombed pubs and hotels. almost killed Thatcher at one hotel. Terrorism is a tactic - and IRA practiced terrorism. Sounds like you want to excuse the tactic of terrorism when practiced by the IRA murderers. Situational ethics - usually I associate that with liberals.
Sherman burned Atlanta.
The Nazis bombed London. Allied forces bombed Dresden.
The USA dropped the atomic bomb on Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
These were attacks on civilians. Were they terrorism or acts of war between defined combatants?
That's why I asked for clarification. I recall that the IRA was not uniformed, but they were organized and limited their actions to the British in a stated grievance and conflict, although perhaps not in a legal state of war.
What is the comparison and/or contrast with Islamic jihad? That's all I'm asking.

Murdered an American tourist when they bombed Harrods in 1983.
No, they just murdered an American in 1983 in London when they bombed Harrods.
And so what if they never bombed America?. Neither have Hamas, Hezbollah or the PLO or Baader Meinhof, but youd agree they were/are all terrorists?.
The IRA bombed and killed British servicemen in Germany and murdered two Aussies in Holland because they ‘looked British’. They were also famously stopped by the SAS from setting off THAT bomb in Gibraltar.
