Morning Call ^

Posted on 03/09/2011 4:25:57 AM PST by Red in Blue PA

An Allentown woman called the city 911 center late Tuesday demanding that an ambulance take her to the hospital for a stubbed big toe. She got the ride.

The woman, 52, first phoned at 11:10 p.m. from the 600 block of W. Liberty Street, according to emergency radio reports. No ambulance was sent. But 10 minutes later the woman called, again seeking a ride to the hospital for her toe.

Thanks for the info. I have to give up on those “charitable moments.” At root, it’s always the “gimme” entitlement mentality.

When the Doctor called and said Heart, the system went into High Gear.

Probably 75% of the bills sent out by your Palm County Emergency services Department do not get paid.

It would be fun for you to find out.

“Putting Fire Apparatus that costs $400,000 dollars on the street 10 or 15 times a day for BS Ambulance calls wears out the equipment at a fantastically quick rate.”

I assume the fire chief has a car. Couldn’t you send a firefighter in that car? Just keep the trunk clean and empty in case you need to transport a fat welfare momma to the hospital.

Better yet, send a damn front end loader. Some of them fat union boys weigh more than Moby Dick.

It is a sickening fact that those who pay nothing expect the top treatment. I have seen so much of that.

It is easy to demand an ambulance for a minor hurty when you know you are entitled to not have to pay for it.

Many of those types think that ambulance and EMT services are free to all.

I needed one once because I was alone and was passing out from being very ill. I managed to hit 911. They came, opened my door themselves and took good care of me.

My insurance paid part of the bill but I was left with $500.00 to pay.

In SE PA, we no longer call the department with fire trucks the “Fire Dept.” We call them the “Wreck Dept.” the “Responding Dept.” There was a homicide in our town, about 25 miles from Allentown, and one cop showed up, one ambulance and four fire trucks?

With MANY people pushing 400 pounds, even if you had two strapping men in the ambulance, they would still need help. Unfortunately, I see injured ambulance crew all the time.

Glad you were OK, but realize your doctor made a LEGAL decision, not a medical one. IF (God forbid) you had suffered that heart attack while driving to the hospital, that doctor would have been sued for the entire world. IF your out of control automobile had swerved and injured or worse, another person, the story would have been in every news media in the world, with the DOCTOR’s name being more prominent that yours.
That would have been then end of his practice and his future.
When it is said that many “medical” decisions are really “legal defensive decisions” it is correct.

Don’t have to. Anyone who works in healthcare knows exactly what is going on. You would be amazed at the number of folks arriving in the ED by ambulance for a sore throat or minor cold. The common element? No insurance or Medicaid. Either way they are not paying for their expensive taxi ride.

How about the uninsured poor who smoke 2 packs a day and drink a six pack a day? I see it all the time. Insurance could easily be paid for with what they lay out a month for alcohol and tobacco. But I have to treat them for free and we all pay their hospital bills.....

“the poor have won!”

Depends on what the meaning of “won” is. How long do you think the “rich” (the top 2% or so) can keep the bubble going when 98% of the population finally decides they’re better off on welfare than working? (Oh, maybe a FEW percent will hang onto their pride, temporarily.)

It’s “unsustainable” as the Commiecrats are fond of saying about other things. Oh, and the “poor” still spend their welfare on a lot of that blasted junk food; still like to claim their status as “the poor” so the freebies keep on coming enough to give them the strength to pull that Dhimmicrat lever when elections roll around.
