Morning Call ^

Posted on 03/09/2011 4:25:57 AM PST by Red in Blue PA

An Allentown woman called the city 911 center late Tuesday demanding that an ambulance take her to the hospital for a stubbed big toe. She got the ride.

The woman, 52, first phoned at 11:10 p.m. from the 600 block of W. Liberty Street, according to emergency radio reports. No ambulance was sent. But 10 minutes later the woman called, again seeking a ride to the hospital for her toe.

I hate a sense of entitlement more than anybody. But it is possible she broke her toe (I’ve seen it happen) and she didn’t have a way to get to the hospital. Maybe she couldn’t drive her own car and there were no friends available to drive her.

“Possible” I said. I’m in a charitable mood this morning, even with insomnia.

Please let this be one of those jurisdictions that charge for ambulance rides.

It’s like Gone With the Wind, except some fat old woman is stubbing her toe and drinking mint julep and the employed Americans are out working. And the tax men are the new carbetbaggers.

That is still no reason to call an ambulance for a toe. Usually they can’t be fixed and have to heal themselves.

Sorry, but that section of town is Welfare Central.

This is the mentality of everyone who lives there.

Amazingly, the mayor of the city is trying to bring the city back with empty slogans (City without limits) and a restaurant here and there. Like people are going to take their families to an area to get carjacked because of a restaurant.

Did I mention he is a dem mayor who is also a member of Bloomberg’s MAIG’s?

No doubt medicaid will be billed. And her SSI and “temporary” assistance (TANF) checks will keep rolling on. Oh yeah and her HEAP, food stamps, food baskets/pantry, section 8 housing and her grandbaby’s WIC.

Sounds just like ROCHESTER NEW YORK where a failed mayor who put the city in massive debt due to a “Fast Ferry” scheme (think another form of high speed rail) is running AGAIN for mayor and totally playing the RACE card, to boot (yeah he’s another Eric Holder)

Well we stubbed our toes in Allentown
but they’re closing all the ambulances down
Out in Bethlehem the splinters are mine
for the Amubulance I’m Filling out forms, standing in line
Well our fathers fought the Paper Cut Wars
Spent their weekends getting STDs with Snookie on the Jersey Shore
Met our mothers in emergency rooms ..
got free penicillin for the clap and other weenie wounds...
And we’re living here in Allentown
But the welfare all was handed down
And it’s getting very hard to stay
cause the gummint sez we have to pay....

Hey, health care is a right. Don’t you know anything?

I think they should have went and got her. That is a 300 dollar bill especially if she doesn’t have insurance. If she has insurance, she has been paying for it. Why not get it checked out especially if she broke her toe.

Many ambulance calls are just Medicaid taxi rides. Several friends work in EMS and they tell stories of entire families standing at the door with suitcases in hand, waiting for the ambulance. People use ambulances to get to checkups and elective surgery.

Some people would feign illness, then pop off the gurney once they got to the emergency room. They just wanted a ride to the hospital to see a friend.

The ambulance would just have to bill Medicaid or send a bill to the people who wouldn’t pay.
