What most people will care about is that Newt crusaded against Bill Clinton's indescretions while secretly doing the same thing. Most Americans remember Bill fondly, and exhuming this bit of history will recast Bill as more sympathetic a character, and Newt more villainous. No doubt the Clintons will spend every waking moment and every ounce of political capital they have to illustrate Newt as a skulking hypocrite. The actual conditions of Newt's indiscretions are dazzlingly unflattering, and he's never really had to account for them in the public arena. If he thinks that it's 'old news' he won't have to deal with 24/7 as a candidate, he's mistaken beyond measure.
Sorry, Newt, but between your personal hypocracies and your political hypocracies (which are many), you've exceeded your baggage allowance for this trip. You'll never achieve orbit under such weight. The left and the right will gun you down in the street of public opinion, and the middle will consider your bullet ridden body radioactive.
Any Newt supporters should take note. Largely speaking, the hard right won't back him because he's a sellout of his own ideals, the center right sees him as merely the lesser of two evils, and the soft right sees him as damaged goods that won't survive contact with the enemy. All three are correct, and that can't be squared successfully.
Well stated and Bumping it!
Well-stated; LOL; good thread.
