As I'm sure you know, the now-famous case of Baby Joseph in Canada is becoming critical. He could die in the next couple of weeks if his breathing tube is removed as the hospital and the government intend.
Baby Joseph is only 13 months old and often has difficulty breathing on his own. He needs a procedure called a tracheostomy in order to go home and live under his parents' care. However, the Canadian health care system is refusing to let the family take care of their son -- even though hospitals in the United States have privately said that they would take Joseph in and give him the tracheostomy he needs to survive. U.S. doctors and hospitals who are now familiar with the case are appalled that Baby Joseph hadn't received the tracheostomy 3 or 4 months ago rather than make the baby suffer all this time.
Baby Joseph's parents are pleading with the world for a hospital with the courage to step forward and accept their son for evaluation and treatment. Priests For Life has even agreed to supply medical air transport to and from the facilities. We will support the cost of the hospitalization and after-care including nursing. Home ventilators have also been donated to maintain Baby Joseph if needed.
There are U.S. physicians in Michigan willing to oversee Baby Joseph's outpatient care and assist in weaning him off the home ventilator should it be necessary.
We have yet to find one facility that said it would not perform the tracheostomy on Baby Joseph.
The real problem is that health care providers in the U.S. need Baby Joseph's medical records -- but the Canadian authorities are refusing to release them.
Therefore, I need your help to continue to contact the Canadian authorities so that a proper and humane solution to this problem can be found. We have recently discovered that Canadian law requires the hospital to release these records to Baby Joseph's parents upon request. And to date, they have refused.
This is what is preventing hospitals in the United States from being able to accept Baby Joseph. We need those medical records! And we need them now!
Therefore, I urge you to click here and send an email to the Canadian officials who oversee the London, Ontario hospital requesting that the medical records be released immediately.
We are continuing our search for a hospital in the United States to take Baby Joseph, and they won't do that without the records.
So please send an email to the Canadian authorities -- and at the same time say a strong prayer for Baby Joseph and his parents. Time is running out, so please act now.
Again all you need to do is click on this link and action can be taken in this life-or-death case.
And while you're on your computer, please forward this urgent email to everyone you know, and we may have a strong chance of saving Baby Joseph from a cruel death.
Fr. Frank Pavone
Nationail Director
P.S. There are currently many false reports and rumors in the media that Baby Joseph is in a persistent vegetative state. He's not. He's only 13 months old, and simply isn't getting the care he needs. Any baby would suffer if not given proper care. So please don't listen to the same kind of lies and distortions that caused Terri Schiavo's untimely death.
This is why it so important that the medical records are released so the truth can come out.
A few days ago, it seemed that everyone posting was denying the fact that this baby is on a ventilator. There was a lot of misinformed positions. It was completely frustrating me.
I've read EVERY POST on EVERY THREAD about Baby Joseph and NOBODY has suggested that he is not on a ventilator. The FACT is that if he wasn't on a ventilator there wouldn't be a reason his parents couldn't just take him home.
I do not believe the taxpayer should pay for futile care. If you are all willing to pay for the care, then I have no issue with that.
Funds for Baby Joseph's care have already been secured, you were told this last week. Why do you keep bringing it up?
I would like to give some advice and knowledge on my part (believe me- I know this stuff)-
Your "advice" is nothing more than a pro-death agenda.
If Father Pavone is willing to pay for that- then bless him.
He is.
I am just trying to inform you of the reality of the situation. If you want this baby home, then the above issues need to be addressed.
EVERYONE is aware of what will be necessary.
All of your talk about product compatibility between Canadian and American companies is hysterically transparent. I'll give you a hint, money was donated for the home ventilator, I can assure you they bought one that could be serviced. Windsor, Canada is a few minutes from Detroit, we're not talking about some frontier community.
Let's not forget that hospice's exit protocol called for a little sweat lodge for Terri so that any drop of moisture left in her body would be sweated out of her before they began tortuing her.
WOOLEN BLANKET up to her neck in MARCH wrapped tightly around her.
Evil people tortured and murdered an innocent woman and who was right there cheering them on? Our Federal, State and Local government (and the police and even Wackenhut brought their guard dogs. There were snipers in the balconies of my friends' apartment bldg.
It was a GHASTLY event when everyone who know who they are were so vested in killing ONE PERSON.
GHASTLY.
Jeb Bush was a coward. Forget any notions of running him for Senate or President. He’s no better than Judge Greer.
You came a day late and a dollar short to the debate. This baby will die, the question is....are we a humane people or not. Can this family take their son home and spend some quality time caring for him while the inevitable death comes? OR will a “doctor/death panel” shut off a ventilator and cause him to die in a cold sterile hospital while making this a spectacle for death mongers to spout off about.
Is the allmighty dollar to be worship and hoarded while this family’s life and it’s most intimate feelings be questioned and expounded on by people who wish to dance on the grave of this innocent life?
Have at it, sweatheart.....dance all you want.
Holy cow. What an obsession with death that one has.
It matters not one bit how many assess the situation, the rational for refusal of such a minor procedure is as stated above. As another freeper up thread said, he has done it on the battle field with a bayonet and bic pen.
You sure seem to have a problem with this case, I wonder if you have any children of your own. That can make a difference in one's attitude.. sorry for your attitude. It sucks big time..
Hi DJ We have right on free republic with Jim what one doctor can do to help when a handful of doctors said NOPE. He’s home getting treatment for his diabetic lesion in hopes of saving his leg and only 1 doctor was willing to try...It only takes 1 doctor with courage to help a patient keep his leg... GG
I’m sorry I wasn’t here for you earlier. I was posting on another thread and didn’t check my messages.
Mr. Thomas Boots was a handsome cat, wasn’t he? I’m so sorry about your loss. I hope it helps you to know that he was fortunate to have your love and affection.
I have read here and other blogs is “why are hospitals in the US not accepting this patient?”
I have laid it out to you.
You can attack me, but if you want this baby home, the first issue is finding a Canadian doctor willing to accept this patient back home- otherwise hospitals here will be scared to accept this patient.
The second is to find a ventilator company that can accept this patient. Due to staffing issues, that can be a wait. You also have to have this company have offices in the US and Canada, because the baby has to be discharged on his home ventilator. That means, the ventilator donated has to come from the company itself. This has to be arranged before transfer to a US hospital.
That is just the beginning.
And, please do not call me sweetheart. That is a statement trying to denigrate me, and I will not tolerate that.
I have spent most of my career taking care of the sick and dying. I have seen and done a lot in alleviating pain. I have counseled families when their relative is dying. I have been there.
Oh, I may be a few hours late posting. The prior post was on Wed. So, I am not a day late and a dollar short.
I agree. I didn't realize until later that it was also a defining moment around the world. Other countries are now contemplating the final solution, and holding up the extermination of Terri Schiavo as an example to be followed.
Mr Thomas Boots is so handsome and what a great picture. Very tough losing a family pet. I’m sorry.
First and foremost, the problem is a system of healthcare run by death panels that refuse a trach and sending the patient home to die with dignity. Canadians have very little choice....and that is coming here if we don’t speak up.
I, too, work in the medical field....lots of people do. I have cared for my mother in and out of hospice for two years....we make these things happen here in record time...days in fact. It could happen there as well, but for the system they have. Sad, but true.
Where I work, sending patients home in record time does not happen.
Our community resources make it difficult.
I do not want the government dictating my healthcare- we can agree on that.
I can just imagine the crud we will have to put up if Obamacare happens.
The money has been found to privately provide a vent....he needs a trach procedure, then he could go home. Cost minimal compared to the care in a hospital now.
I see no excuse not to accommodate this family, BUT for the power struggle over who plays god and determines that this baby must die by the doctor/hospital/government’s playbook.
The spectacle of this should be a warning to all.......REJECT obamacare and it’s deathpanels. It’s coming here and sooner than we think.
The only thing that you've "laid out" is your support for killing Baby Joseph.
You can attack me, but if you want this baby home, the first issue is finding a Canadian doctor willing to accept this patient back home- otherwise hospitals here will be scared to accept this patient.
It's clear from this statement that you are simply speaking about your opinion, and thus revealing your agenda. If you had bothered to read what Father Pavone wrote, you would have seen this:
There are U.S. physicians in Michigan willing to oversee Baby Joseph's outpatient care and assist in weaning him off the home ventilator should it be necessary.
Now, Detroit is only a few minutes from Windsor, so there ARE physicians willing to help the family.
The reason that hospitals are hesitant is because the Canadian health care system WON'T RELEASE BABY JOSEPH'S MEDICAL RECORDS.
I have spent most of my career taking care of the sick and dying. I have seen and done a lot in alleviating pain. I have counseled families when their relative is dying. I have been there.
And if your attitude is at all similar to what has been demonstrated here you have represented all that is wrong with our medical system.
Imagine if those who fight so fiercely for death were to fight as fiercely for life?
Their efforts would be better spent, and they’d finally see a profit.
I also think it's bizarre, like in this case, when they talk about wanting what's best for the family. Baby Joseph's parents have already been through this, they just want to take him home to die.
So persistent in the cause of death. How sad.
