It might even have worked - the Saudis might even have shipped some weapons to the rebels. They could have destabilized, maybe even toppled Momar's Libyan regime, and made a lot of money at the same time by disrupting Libyan oil production for decades.
Of course, this should have been done in strict secrecy! Conspiring with us (the GREAT SATAN) to dreate civil unrest and murder fellow Muslims (even those of a different sect) won't go down too well in the Arab street.
