Towering Illusions
The American Thinker ^ | Robert Morrison

Posted on 03/06/2011 3:11:27 AM PST by Scanian

My grandson, at two, recognizes the Eiffel Tower. Our daughter called us to report his new words and to say: "We know where he got this from." I confess. I taught the lad. The Eiffel Tower has a strange appeal to me. That's not surprising. When it was erected in 1889, it was denounced by French critics as American. No worse epithet could be hurled by the French elites.

I will never forget my first view from the top of the Eiffel Tower. It was a bitter cold night in November, just 44 days shy of the Millennium. Looking out from that 1,000-foot high tower, it is hard to imagine that everything in view could have fallen to a barbaric invader. The tower itself communicates strength and endurance.

We know that France did indeed fall victim to an invader in 1940. Hitler is shown in old newsreels exulting in his only trip to Paris, early in the morning of June 23rd. As Americans, we are used to viewing the French with contempt. They must have been cheese eaters, weaklings, to collapse so ignominiously before Hitler's panzers. And what was that stupid Maginot Line all about, anyway? What fools. What cowards. Or so we think.

Churchill was no fool, no coward. Churchill placed a high reliance on the courage, strength, and martial skill of the French army. No one was more shocked at its sudden collapse in 1940 than the man who loved France and the French passionately. He even went so far as to propose a union -- a common nationality -- between the French Republic and the United Kingdom if only the French army would carry on the fight against Hitler.

But France had been fatally weakened

Thank you.

I’m glad you had rather express appreciation for the quality of AT’s writing than nit-pick about proofreading.

Love this story. I’ll never forget the cab ride my husband took me on right before the millenium. It was our last evening in Paris. The Eiffel Tower was counting down the days in bold neon. We went through the tunnel where Diana met her doom. We zoomed all over the beautiful city “oohing” and “aahing.” At the end of the ride, the cabbie jumped out, kissed us both, and told us he loved Americans.

Unhyphenated “nitpick” is now standard, though “nit-pick” is still acceptable. “Had rather” has Shakespearean credential but is generally considered archaic or perhaps (Appalachian) regional.

“Neighbor of the Beast”

You live next door to the Federal Reserve? Or some other beast?

Fundamentalist muslims from Pakistan in the middle of nowhere, rural Pennsylvania. They bought the old Catholic church and convent and started a boarding school, mosque, madrassa, and roach motel. I moved away before they were finally charged with sex crimes against the students; it was truly neighborhood of the Beast. Thus, 668 was born.

Everything you may read about islamist sleeper cells in America...believe it. They crop up in the most unlikely places. Some are more foolish than others and don’t take root, but they’re all of one mind.

I do believe it. Thank you for enhancing my education and I’m not being sarcastic. You’ve added to such inputs as the book “The Muslim Mafia”.

Yeah, well I happen to be both archaic and a Southern white guy who has spent many years in the foothills of the Appalachians. Still own a bit of land up there, in fact.

So, I’m just acting in character.

Sharp of you to notice, however.

Because we are today headed by the weakest commander-in-chief in a century. "Woe to thee, O land, when thy king is a child." (Ecclesiastes 10:16) President Obama has no idea how the world works. He has no understanding of how to defend this country. Even now, he is putting out peace feelers to the Taliban in Afghanistan. Even now, he thinks we should let the Islamists put up a victory mosque at Ground Zero. Every day, as the wolves gather, Mr. Obama proceeds to weaken and diminish our military. The strongest Navy in the history of the world is shrinking before our eyes.

BTTT.

Oh, yeah...I just got off a phone call with an Irishman when I wrote that. Maybe it had something to do with it also.

Sure and you’ve caught a mild case of it and the saints be thanked. Don’t be talking with Irish before ye’ve had yer shots! (Two or three draps of the creature and no less!)

We cannot continue daily weakening the economic, military, and spiritual fiber of our nation without dire consequences.

spiritual

Two things: government schooling and Obama's eligibility

Government schooling:

We can NOT NOT NOT send generations of children into godless and socialist-funded government schools without reaping spiritual consequences. If we immerse children in a godless worldview they WILL learn to think and reason godlessly.

Government schools have been godless in their worldview since at least the days of my grandmother ( born 1894) and my father ( born 1913). How many generations is that?

When will conservatives awaken from their slumber? When will they finally understand that government schooling must be shut down. It must be replaced with PRIVATE conservative schooling in which Judeo Christian belief and our nation's founding principles are woven throughout the entire curriculum and day.

Obama's eligibility:

That we have a likely usurper in the White House is due entirely to the spiritual sickness of our legislators, judges, media, and highest military leaders. None of them has the spiritual courage to trust in the Lord and then do what is right.

We just assume that there will be a 2016 election for the really strong ones to take part in.

Just like we always assumed that our representatives would always be constitutionally eligible for the office. We assumed that they we have that honor not to run if they did not qualify. Well....Anyone audacious enough to trample Article 2, Section 1, is sufficiently brazen to crush the entire nation. ( And...Our spiritually weak leaders will do nothing about it. Haven't they proven themselves already?)

Yeah! ...I am shouting, jumping up and down, and having a fit!

A spiritually weak nation ( marinated in the godless religion of secular humanism) continually elect leaders who let these Muslims into the country.

From the article; "The dollar is about to be replaced as the world currency."

I believe that when this occurs the collapse of America will be become rapid.

We cannot continue daily weakening the economic, military, and spiritual fiber of our nation without dire consequences.

The author suggests in this sentence that economics, military strength, and spiritual fiber are independent of each other and that each could be fortified separately. He is wrong in this assumption.

Spiritual strength will lead to economic and military strength. Our economic prosperity and military preparedness rests upon a bedrock foundation of spirituality.

I am on these message boards every day urging conservatives to recognize the seriousness and URGENCY of getting our nation's children out of the godless government schools. These government schools must be shut down. They were **always** and abomination.l

We must build up generations of citizens who are firm in their Judeo-Christian faith and can defend the principles upon which our nation was built. We must get our nation's children into private and conservative educational settings.

The trigger will be when one of America’s major bondholders decides to dump its Treasuries.

That’s why solving the debt and deficit problem is absolutely the key issue that completely overshadows all others AT THIS MOMENT. Other issues will have to wait. This is survival time.

We need to demonstrate fiscal responsibility to the world or the Treasuries will go into the toilet.

And Bernanke needs to stop playing games with the money supply!

Don’t knock him, Robert’s a good boy! One of the most fervent anti-Muslims in Europe. Lives in Amsterdam right now. He’s a big Wilders supporter.

We just assume that there will be a 2016 election

We still said prayers in school, and sang Hymns until the 50's, when things began to roll downhill.

I really suspected the last election, was gong to be the last election, but my hopes were raised a little when the House was returned to the people. How we could not have regained the Senate shows just how corrupt our elections are.

The Communists within are now wielding there biggest sticks, I suspect Wisconsin is but a prelude to real violence, and revolutions always end badly. This country being the exception because the Founders believed in God, despite all the revised history that says otherwise.

Your; "The trigger will be when one of America’s major bondholders decides to dump its Treasuries."

That will do it. And it will certainly happen when the dollar is rightfully stripped of its world reserve currency status.

Looks to me as if it's a 3-way race to the finish line with "loss of reserve currency status" and "dump of Treasuries" running neck-and-neck while "fiscal responsibility" is running a poor third. And that idiot Bernake is riding both of the front runners!

America has demonstrated to the world that freedom cannot survive in any country which gives control of its money to the bankers and decades of policy control to the "free lunch" crowd.
