Slaughtering his own people and mocking the world's pleas, for peace, Libya's Moammar Gadhafi can only be stopped by force. Since President Barack Obama seems comfortable killing terrorists in Afghanistan and Pakistan with Predator drone strikes, why not in Libya?
So far, establishing a no-fly zone is the only air power option on the table... The Turkish prime minister has said he would oppose such a move.
A no-fly zone also creates political problems for Obama. He came to power promising to end two wars, not to start a new one. "Let's just call a spade a spade," Defense Secretary Robert Gates said. "A no-fly zone begins with an attack on Libya."
...Collateral damage to civilians is a real risk as is friendly fire. On April 14, 1994, over Iraq, two U.S. helicopters were mistakenly shot down, killing 26 coalition personnel...
Doing nothing beyond sanctions and speeches is also not an option. Libya is quickly becoming a humanitarian disaster... Libya's collapse could also destabilize our European allies. European Union officials privately estimate that the EU will see 250,000 refugees from Libya in the coming months.
For those concerned about the legality of striking Gadhafi and his inner circle, remember President Reagan's 1986 air strikes on the Libyan dictator. Yes, they missed, but no one contends they were illegal.

Muslims are slaughtering muslims.
We should stop them why again?
Gates is right. We would first have to neutralize Libyan air defenses..then impose the zone. We are also short assets(AC Carriers in the Med. Italy and Malta might not allow us to conduct air ops from them. Not a good situation.
Remember the Predators have only operated in areas where there is no effective air defense.
I agree, and it was quoted in its own topic, but I really included it because of the quote. ;’)
/bingo
The last time the words “slaughter” and “genocide” were used in a conflict it pertained to Kosovo. We now know the lies about that situation and how the U.S. reacted. Oh yeah, we just had an Albanian kill two of our airmen. Yep, the U.S. sure did become a friend of them, eh?
I bring to your rememberance this is the same society that said nothing after it was revealed their government murdered our citizens on the Pan Am bombing.
Then they celebrated the bomber as a hero once he got home.
Their hands are not clean. They got the government they deserve.
“remember President Reagan’s 1986 air strikes on the Libyan dictator. Yes, they missed, but no one contends they were illegal.”
LOL. The left squealed like a stuck pig when Reagan bombed Libya. Illegal this illegal that.
We could also get thirty pound sledgehammers and pound on our toes.
The Iran backed insurgency is not a democracy movement and is more jihadist than the old reprobate himself.
Let them kill each other all they want.
You are absolutely right. We have absolutely no reason to get involved here. Let them all slaughter each other like the pigs that they are.
“a humanitarian disaster...” yeah, that’s the way Democrats like Clinton describe any third-world area in which they want to meddle, before wasting troops then tucking tail and running.
I am sorry for the innocent victims of this brutality - the kids, some women, even some men more likely than not -
but I am not convinced that the New Boss will be any improvement over the Old Boss. There is no sane person waiting in the wings to take over Libya, as far as I know.
So to risk American lives to ensure an uncertain or unknown outcome I can not support.
Precisely — back then Clinton or one of his proxy whiners said, we had to do *something*. They never thought about, oh, setting up aid stations, delivering tents and blankets. Gore told one family that their son/brother had died on behalf of the UN.
They liked Gaddafi then. Maybe now he’s not anti-American enough. Or maybe the left is just inherently violent and anti-social.
Let him win, then kill him.
I was thinking of Sec. of State `Thunderthighs’ saying we should enforce a `no-fly’ zone in Libya, but yes, it’s another Clinton: “Hey, there’s a hornets nest, people are getting stung, we have to stick our hands in it!”
After what happened to our Rangers in Mogadishu, I promised myself I was going to yell like hell if I saw anything like it in the future. It’s a civil war. We should stay out of it.
Too late the sas is on the hunt...
If that is true--it probably is--part of the inprocessing of these people needs to be Baptism and a trip past an incinerator where the copy of the koran they brought with them can be disposed of.
If I recall correctly, a few years back the Congress passed a law making it illegal for us to kill a head of state.
