As a poster has observed on WMAL’s FB page, “Gee......let’s ask the question this way: Was WMAL contacted by any organization seeking to restrict a Guest of the Grandy Show, such as Mrs. Fred?”
630 WMAL Ping List
Both sides could be telling the truth. It’s possible that WMAL wasn’t explicitly contacted by CAIR and told to dump Mrs. Fred; WMAL station management was probably terrified enough by the Michael Graham situation that they didn’t need a contact from CAIR to be scared. Once burned, etc. So when Mrs. Fred began telling the ugly truth about radical Islam, they decided to get her off the air before CAIR had a chance to complain. Fred hears his wife is going to be dumped and tells the management, “You can’t take her off the air; not only is she my wife, but I’m supposed to have control of the guest roster on my own show. If I don’t have that control anymore, if you’re going to insult my wife, I want out.”
It’s a great shame. I agreed with everything Catherine Mann said, and it certainly needs to be said, but her presentation was strident and uncomfortable to listen to. If sponsors were worried or other listeners found likewise that this was hard to listen to at 7 a.m., a nervous management might want her to dial it back a little. Of course, honor would not allow either Fred or Mrs. Grandy to do that.
I hope there is a silver lining to this: I hope both Grandys now expand their message and deliver it to a larger forum than the Washington DC radio market.
I picked up MAL during the couple or three years I was consulting down there, and now listen on the internet.
Bryan’s fine, Grandy OK, but I thought Mrs. Fred was outstanding.
All isn’t lost though, remember the Chris Plante episode!
