KARLSRUHE, Germany U.S. Senior Airman Nicholas J. Alden was standing outside of a bus at Frankfurt airport when a young man first asked him for a cigarette, then whether he was bound for Afghanistan.
When Alden answered yes, the man fatally shot him, point blank, in the back of the head, then stormed aboard the bus shouting "Allah Akbar" Arabic for "God is great." He shot and killed Airman 1st Class Zachary R. Cuddeback, who was at the wheel, then shot and injured two others, German authorities said Friday.
The gunman, identified as Arid Uka, a 21-year-old Kosovo Albanian, then pointed his FN 9mm pistol at yet another airman seated on the bus. "He pointed his pistol at his head and pulled the trigger twice, but the pistol jammed and no shots came out," prosecutor Rainer Griesbaum told reporters in Karlsruhe.
Jammed, empty shell casings prevented the weapon from firing again

“We had a German exchange student who freaked out because so many people here have guns. Thought we were gangsters or something. He said its rare that any German would own one.”
You know what happens when Germans have guns? WWI and WWII.
They apparently haven't learned anything in the interim................
“Obama is still trying to figure this one out.”
We are soooo lucky-—a born leader in charge.
:-)
Yes, with “bean bags” like the Border Agents......grrrrr

I’m one of those “limp wrist” people you mention—that’s why I now only shoot revolvers. I never could get rid of the habit of breaking my wrist with each shot.

Perhaps, we hould have one armed soldier on all of these buses, since they are cleared marked.
And the WH refuses yet again to call this an act of terrorism. Just like the Ft Hood shootings.
In Obama’s book, lets not forget he said, “I will stand with them should the political winds shift in an ugly direction.
lol US Ammo.
I like European weapons and vehicles but I really get sick of their ethnocentrism so I had to commment. Bottom line though, The gun jammed and I highly doubt it was due to using US ammo as US ammo is top notch and it’s far more likely he was using European or Russian ammo.
I agree. I mourn their deaths and pray for their loved ones, but there's so much training that focuses on keeping that information to yourself.
On one of my deployments (mix of military and civilian embeds), we stopped at a European airport and two obnoxious guys kept going on about "Baghdad this" and "Baghdad that," as if they wanted everyone around to know that's where we were going.
I finally asked them to stop it and told them they were putting everyone at risk with that.
One of them got kind of huffy, but his buddy agreed and shut the other guy up.
I was joking at the expense of topnotch EU gun designers, of COURSE it’s not their fault.
Thanks for the post.
Why there wasn’t armed security onboard the bus, I will never know. I chalk it up to complacency by the higher-ups.
The stupid jerk muslim asshole shooter will get, what , perhaps 10 years in prison?
no question.
islamic sissies
As to motive, he was “Islamist-inspired.” Yeah, that istism is really ruining a lovely ROP.
Well, they do almost always go ‘bang’.
Because that is how contracted services work. The military contracts out virtually everything these days. Troop transport outside of theater, food service, et al.
Terrorism is when they yell "Palin 2012."
Oh yeah? When I bought my brand-new Smith & Wesson Model 19 Combat Magnum K frame revlolver back in 1980, it jammed on me during the first outing at the range. The piece of crap S&W (lack of) Quality Control didn't locktite the ejector rod, so it slowly backed out with each shot until it was jammed against the barrel shroud and I couldn't open the cylinder.
Wooah....spooky, you have the same guns that I do. Except for my Taurus and the S&W.
