It was a waste before it left the ground.

The satellite Glory launches this week as part of a NASA mission to enhance the agency's modeling of the Earth's climate and reduce uncertainties about the causes and consequences of climate change. Among other things, the craft will look at how aerosols affect climate. It will also help maintain a record of total solar irradiance.

That rocket’s got about as many decals as a NASCAR racer.

NASA’s future is in Arab and Moslem countries, now.

Forget space, NASA. Think: Moslem Outreach.

The earth observation satellite Glory failed to reach orbit on Friday....

Well, now it'll get a real close look at its subject.

It didn’t reach orbit, but left a big carbon footprint & plenty of toxic waste on it’s way back down. /sarc ;)

Maybe the Chinese could launch our next one for us.

Hate losing the satellite, but realistically it wasn’t going to be used for anything more than propaganda.

Wow, wasn’t there another US Earth observation satellite that failed to make orbit about a year or two ago?

So much effort by so many people, only to end up as junk on the bottom of the ocean...

This sounds like the satellite that Gore wanted many years ago. That project never got off the ground, fortunately.

I don't know why the "Center For Muslim Outreach", formerly known as NASA, is having just bad luck...

Intentional abort/destruction made to look like an accident? Maybe they realized there was not going to be a way to control or "pre-process" the data coming from the satellite... They realized scientists and even, gasp, the public might get access to un-filtered data that clearly shows gore-bull warming is bunk. Can't have that, don't let that thing reach orbit and start transmitting!

Not a tin-foil hat kind of guy (usually), but this does seem a little convenient. Actually, it probably is an engineering problem not a political one. Apparently this is not the first time this launch vehicle has had fairing separation problems. They are now only 1 for 4 in their last 4 attempts - not a good record.

For that particular rocket system, that is now three failures out of the last four launches. I'd be interested to know how the responsibility distributes between Orbital Sciences and NASA. That should be good for SpaceX. I wonder when SpaceX will go public...?

For those who're complaining that the satellite would have generated nothing but propaganda - science is the ONLY thing that will meaningfully debunk the CAGW scam. It is true that possibly the data could be manipulated before release, but I don't believe that kind of conspiracy can last and it would be incredibly damaging if such a conspiracy were to be revealed. See "Climategate".

One of the better reality checks on the climate alarmists are the satellite measurements of global average sea level. They are a direct measure of "true" global warming.

Why does it matter if the satellite went down. These “scientists” already have the report written on the outcome of this mission.

I dunno, fairing failed to come off due to being glued on?
