Any chance of a primary challenge against Bohner in 2012?? You know, a real Conservative with a real backbone??

I just heard tonight that Speaker Boehner does not want Mr. Buckles, our last veteran of WWI, who just died at 110, to lie in state in the Capitol Rotunda. He said Arlington Cemetary ceremony is enough. I feel that honoring him as the last veteran, honors all our WWI defenders, as well as all our soldiers who have died. For such a memorable end, I think that ceremonies at both locations might be appropriate. Furthermore, many who would be likely to want to honor him are probably elderly so it would be better in the Rotunda, in cold March weather. I am not aware of any large building at Arlington. If you feel strongly about this you can call Congress at 202-CA4-3121 and ask the operator for Mr. Boehner, or the representative most likely to listen to you.

Boehner is playing very shrewd political chess and has Obama in check here. He, like every other Conservative, knows damn well that Obama is not going to give an inch on entitlement cuts, because, as other FReepers have pointed out, they’re the bread and butter of his constituency.

By putting this out in the ether, he’s basically giving Obama a public ultimatum: stand up and help to cut entitlements or be left looking like a fool.

Now, if Boehner capitulates and doesn’t cut entitlements or steps back his actions despite the rhetoric, then I’ll sympathize with your “Conservative backbone” statement. Otherwise, this is a brilliant and calculated move by Boehner.
