Which Republicans Will Support Jerry Brown's Tax Vote Plan?

Assuming he can hold Democrats in the Legislature in line, Brown needs four Republican votes--two from each chamber of the Legislature--to place a measure before voters in June that would extend income, sales and vehicles tax increases for five more years. So who are the three Republicans who haven't signed either pledge? Senators Anthony Cannella and Sam Blakeslee and Assemblyman Bill Berryhill. Last Friday, Brown acknowledged ... that Cannella and Blakeslee are key Republicans for getting the tax measure on the ballot.

“But there are other ones,” he said.

Who will be the turncoats this year? Nothing much happened to the 6 Republicans who voted for taxes in 2009 so I am not hopeful that the Republicans can hold together this year.

I really don't care, it will all collapse no matter what - on its current trajectory, with Brown's tax increases or without.

The only open question is when.

The votes will be found because the people of CA believe in and demand tax increaes to bring about their “prosperity.”

Abel Maldonado (Rino-Santa Maria) got his ass thrown out of politics forever. I don’t know what happened to the other five. I am optimistic that not one Republican will cross over. Now that Shitzenegger is gone the few Republicans that we have are of the Tom McClintock variety, real conservatives who are not interested in tax increases.

“They still have Republicans in California?”
The last (2010) California wildlife census shows an estimated 800 feral Republicans and a couple dozen domesticated Republicans. But, the domesticated Republicans have been neutered to curtail objectionable tea-party behavior and will generally vote liberal.

If they want to put taxes on the ballot put 187 on the ballot again as well as welfare benefits...give the people a choice, higher taxes or cut the BS expenses..

We know how 187 worked out, Gray Davis and one judge sold the state down the river and now its broke....

Blakeslee better not vote for it.

He won’t be forgiven.

Hey genius, there are more Republicans in California than most other states. There are around 34 million people in California, the problem is illegals and leftest out number us. If only 30% of California’s population is Republican that is still more than 10 million republicans which is greater than the total population of many states.

And where do you think this Web site is located? And what state provides the most funding for it?

Why would ANY Republican want to give COVER to the Democrats who have run CA in the ground for decades. They broke CA in many different ways, let them fix it by themselves.

Just because you put a Repblican label on your ass when you run for office does NOT mean you really are a Republican.
See: Rudy Juliani
Bloomberg
Romney
Huckelberry
Newt.
I can go on here.

I just assume that some Republicans will cave, as usual. The timing of the election though, could be "unfortunate" for Brown. By June, gas could be 5 dollars a gallon or more, and people might be thoroughly pissed. Brown's proposition to raise taxes, like the political careers of the Republicans who cave, will go down in flames.

In a way, this might be like deciding who will be the coach of the big game. Coaches under consideration will not discuss their strategy unless the are chosen. So, a coach gets chosen and the game gets under way. Now, he is asked how his team will win. Says the coach, in deadly seriousness, "Well, will have to score more points."

Brown wasn't too specific before the election. Now, he explains his plan to solve the deficit. "Well, we'll have to raise taxes." DUH!

Sen. Anthony Cannella was elected in 2010 and is the son of Sal Cannella a former Dem. assemblyman.

Sen. Sam Blakeslee was also elected in 2010. That means neither of them have to face the voters until 2014.

Depends on what you mean by "thrown out." He was appointed Lt. Gov. by Arnold and confirmed by the CA Senate. Then he won the statewide Republican primary to represent the Party in the general election.

Yes, he lost the general election like all the other statewide Republicans. The only good thing is that the Dem Newsome ran a bunch of ads pointing out that he was a turncoat for voting for the taxes! --heh-heh--

BTW the rumor is that he is thinking of running for Congress.
