My point is, if you or anyone is stupid enough to have someone perform work on or in your private residence, who is not insured/licensed and or bonded, then they get what they deserve.

That was not your point. You were blaming people who hire home workers without verifying their legal status as being lazy, contributing to the problems with illegal immigration, etc. If a person can't check a worker's status, how could you possibly send that person to jail or fine them? Unless your problem is just people who can afford a home worker.

Well, when you walk into the end of a long thread, and throw your opinion in without reading above your shining bit of wisdom, expect to have context thrown at you.

So now that you've gotten your little dig in, answer my question -- can any average household sign up for E-Verify and check the status of a worker? If the answer is no, then just admit it.

Let me ask you, as a homeowner, are you someone who invites people perform work on or in your private property without verifying if they are insured/licensed and or bonded?

What type of "license" do you think my lawn guy has or needs? There's nothing for me to check. He was recommended by a neighbor. And no, I don't care if he's bonded. I doubt my grass needs it.

Holy crap.

Please read the thread.

THIS is what the poster said
“Has it occurred to anyone that this exception is intended to protect homeowners that don’t have the resources to check out a potential employee?

Have you ever tried to use E-Verify? It’s not a simple task even to get started, before you check out a single employee.”

Get it. The guy WAS too lazy to use E-Verify.

Now for you, there ARE business that will check the background of your “homeworker”. Any security business does it, we have one up the street. You know how? E-Verify. I’ve BEEN checked. I’ve been bonded.

So if you want to find out, you can. You can call any security business and ask them to use E-Verify.

Wonder why they keep coming here?

What are you talking about?

All *legitimate* landscaping firms are licensed and insured/bonded. They work with machinery and sharp blades on your private property...Do you have any idea what can and does happen?

So the answer is, you don’t know what type of license a landscaper needs. Tell me, if the landscaper only does lawn work and doesn’t build any type of structure, what license does he need? Don’t say “a license.” Tell me what specific license he needs.

I’m not talking about a website like everify.com. I’m talking about the government “E-Verify” program, which is something I can’t use.

So your answer is YES...

lol...

Lemme tell ya something tex...If you're the homeowner and you do this, you're leaving yourself wide open to massive, punitive liability.

Only a *foolish homeowner* would do this in today's litigious society

.....The worst thing you can do as a homeowner is have a person or people working on your private property, who are not insured/bonded with legitimate licenses......

Oh for crying out loud how many people here as kids cut lawns, shoveled snow, washed cars, babysat, painted, etc etc?

Check your homeowners policy for casual labor.

When they get around to e verifying the President of the US let me know:

What difference does it make? If they will sue you they will sue you and a business license is no protection, it is a business tax and you have no recourse against the license issuer.

I see you have noting intelligent to respond with. What is the difference in age of the person working on your yard/house have to do with anything? Their parents can sue on their behalf just as if they were an adult.

OK........ OK..Your right...

All these tens of hundreds of thousands of half drunk 40 year olds driving uninsured beat up 30 year old trucks all over this country doing landscaping for dirt cheap, are in your words just 12 year old neighborhood kids making some extra money for summer...Gak!

I am so sick of BS'ing disingenuous frauds like you...

Why am I wasting my time here???

I do not appreciate you calling me a fraud. All landscapers do not need to be bonded, and in fact do not need a contractors license when doing work under $500.

You are mistaken and I am not a fraud. Maybe you need insurance because you have been sued for defaming someone before? Is that your bent?
