Federal workers surge, private sector down

While the private sector workforce in America has dwindled in recent years, a new report shows that the federal workforce has gone the opposite direction.

Since December 2007, the private sector has shed more than 7.5 million jobs and decreased by 6.6 percent. But Rea Hederman, research fellow and assistant director of The Heritage Foundation's Center for Data Analysis, compares that to the federal workforce's numbers.

"The federal government has increased by almost 12 percent of total workers," he reports. "Over 230,000 new federal workers have been hired in the last three years," excluding census and postal workers.

And while the trend may have begun in December 2007, it has continued to be the norm throughout the Obama administration. Since President Obama was sworn into office, the private sector workforce has shrunk by 2.6 percent, compared to the public sector's seven-percent increase. But Hederman warns that the divide may grow even larger as the president's 2012 budget proposes more federal jobs.

"ObamaCare means we'll need a lot more federal workers to carry out a lot of the intrusive elements of the bill, such as analyzing people's tax returns on a monthly basis," the research fellow notes. "That's why the IRS says we need about 4,100 new workers."

Overall, he says President Obama wants to create roughly 15,000 new jobs on the federal level.

We are overwhelmed!

With the pay of those who toil for the Central Socialist Government, and those who slave for the individual state governmental apparatus, we sink into the swamp.

Don't lay them off, fire them in droves.

Get civilians out of the military. If the Pentagon were emptied of civil service loafers the building would be practically empty.

There isn't a job in the military that a uniformed military personnel couldn't perform.

Also, reestablish the WAC and get the girls off the front line assignments. Any nation that places girls in combat duty isn't worth defending!

Clean the homosexuals out completely!

I was working in a hospital pharmacy yesterday and one of the Pharmacist was excited about just being hired to work for the FDA in Washington. He is going to work in the dept. that regulates consumer advertising of drugs. I feel so good that I will be working my @$$ off to pay his salary to protect me.

"Federal workers surge, private sector down"

Now you girl beaters out there don't need to get too excited about that headline...the private sector still has you greatly outnumbered, and many of them are not in the greatest mood with their families starving while your swimmin' in it, living off taxpayers money.

Oh, and how about the kids? Hummmmmmmmmm?

“There isn’t a job in the military that a uniformed military personnel couldn’t perform.”

With all due respect, I disagree with your statement. Todays military doesn’t fight with muskets and swords. The equipment and weaponry are incredibly complicated and advanced. Many are developed, procured and managed by civilians with specialized and evolving skills. You can’t just take an 18 year old recruit wave a magic wand and say “poof” now you’re an electronics engineer or “poof” you’re a provisioner or “poof” you’re a contract specialist. Even if you could, most of them would rotate out in 2 years,,,just about the time it takes to really become proficient in their specific job.
