Fluoride is an effective mild disinfectant against tooth decay bacteria. Getting it in tap water can be a problem because there is no easy way to tailor the dose. Maybe West Texans don’t care about mottled bones (nobody will see them until you’re dead), but mottled teeth can easily result from excess fluoride.

Yup! They remove the fluoride along with your rotted liver!

The stuff used for the ADA studies was stannous fluoride, not the crap that they put in the water. Wake up!

Remember of course that the John Birch Society thought that fluoridating water supplies was a “communist plot”? Looks like they were right. Topical fluoride application makes sense. It makes no logical sense to fluoridate entire cities water supplies without knowing the long term effects.

It’s amazing how many “naturalists” there are on FR. Sad, really. Willing to buy anything from 19th-century snake-oil salesmen at their local “vitamin shop” or 3rd-century acupuncturist, and convinced that it works. Amazing how many so-called “natural” things are cures for EVERYthing. “Big Pharma” is just trying to bilk money from everyone, but not these “Big Organics/Naturals” - oh, no. They’re just trying to help people.

Canada sets limits on the amount of fluoride in the fish and water fowl for consumption.

There was a study a year or two ago that said that the military having all kids swish fluoride had actually destroyed lots of people’s teeth as they got older. Seems to have effected me at least somewhat.

Did you bother to read and compare both articles?

Quackwatch does its own share of cherry-picking and scare-mongering.

All medical claims--traditional, holistic, alternative, nutrition-based--should be dispassionately evaluated. Do not confuse "no harm shown" with "safe". Do not confuse "no demonstrated effect" with "useless". And watch the statistics on relative risk or improvement when dealing with effects which affect a small population to begin with.

And follow the money: everyone wants to make money. But some people want to do it by being "consultants" or "experts" and others by providing a useful service, ameliorative, or solution to a problem.

Finally, remember that the AMA and the pharmaceuticals companies have lobbyists: and not all laws are really for "the public good".

Cheers!

Pharma and Docs speak latin because if you knew what it was they were injecting you would think you were in China.

During heart surgery they prevent your blood from clotting with heparin and reverse it with protamine. Heparin is ground up cow lung and protamine is made from salmon sperm. What could be more “natural” or “organic” than that!

The history of fluoride is probably one of the greatest crimes pulled on the American people. Dating back to the Donora fog:

Researchers analyzing the event have focused likely blame on pollutants from the zinc plant, whose emissions had killed almost all vegetation within a half-mile radius of the plant.[1] Dr. Devra L. Davis, director of the Center for Environmental Oncology at the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute, has pointed to autopsy results showing fluorine levels in victims in the lethal range, as much as 20 times higher than normal. Fluorine gas generated in the zinc smelting process became trapped by the stagnant air and was the primary cause of the deaths.[2]

Fluorine was required for our nuclear bomb development in WWII as well as the post war arms race. After the inversion of 1948, fluorine exposure could no longer be forgiven as an unknown. ALCOA was the biggest culprit in the coverup (of course with the help of the government and experts at Carnegie Institute), but coverup the dangers was exactly what they did. Worse was the mountains of waste fluoride left over around the plant.

Oh what to do, what to do? Got it! Let us claim from junk science that fluoride stops tooth decay! Wait....topical....Oh yea! We will put it in the water and people can drink it! All we have to do is sell it to federal, state and local governments. Now the mountains of waste fluoride near our tracks can be put on rail cars to water plants all over the country. Even better! We can charge the water companies for our waste product! Genius!!!

Only one problem. Fluoride is a neurotoxin.

Great. Here in Virginia, the groundwater has large amounts of naturally occurring fluoride.

Naturally occurring fluoride (calcium fluoride) is a totally different animal than man-made (sodium) fluoride - which is a toxic waste product from the manufacture of aluminum.

It's been great for the aluminum industry. Instead of expensive disposal of a toxic waste, they make money and we have been the toxic waste dumps for over 50 years.

All this has been known - but controlled but those with the big bucks.

My dentist if fantastic but I don’t think he would think much of that or he would have mentioned it. I have tried it anyway and it didn’t do much for me.

I don’t know about the article but I will try the “alternative” remedies mentioned by FReepes. As an herbalist I know how powerful they can be.

. my FIL is a dentist and claims that fluoride in toothpaste is good since it is not swallowed.

He's either blowing smoke up your - ear , or he's ignorant of how things enter our bodies.

Ever hear of 'sub-lingual' methods of absorbing things - like Vit B12 - that absorbs faster and more completely by being dissolved under the tongue than swallowed?

Many medicines, even nitroglycerin, is now administered through small patches on the body, absorbed through the skin.

How any thinking person could use fluoride toothpaste OR give it to their kids, is beyond my comprehension.

Ever read the warning required by the gov't on fluoride toothpaste tubes? It warns you that if you use even a pea size amount and swallow to call the poison control immediately. And then they make flavored toothpaste, like bubblegum and grape for kids.

WAKE UP AMERICA
