I just heard (3/3/11) that Speaker Boehner does not want our last WWI veteran honored by lying in state in the Capitol Rotunda. He says it should happen at Arlington Cemetary. First of all as the last man, in a way he represents all our honored dead, and especially from that war. I think he could be honored at both locations. It is cold in DC in March. I am sure that many who would like to honor him are elderly and could not stand around in the cold at Arlington. If you care about this, please spread this information to other FReepers. Also, the number to the Capitol switchboard is 202-CA4-3121. Just ask the operator to be put through to Mr. Boehner’s office or to your favorite representative by name.

Sorry. I can appreciate your sentiments on this one.
But I think the Speaker of the House took the right conclusion.
There are proper protocol established for just who may lie in state within the Capital.
We honor all our military that have served since our Revolution to make this the greatest country in the world.
This veteran shall received proper recognition in Arlington. That being MHO. May the good Lord speed this honorable man to HIS Heavenly abode.
