Mike Pinder, the mellotron player, quit in 1980 to be replaced by Pat Moraz, formerly of Yes. During the Eighties, Justin Hayward and John Lodge pretty much took over the group with less and less participation by Ray Thomas, who had stylistic differences with Moraz.

By 1991, Moraz was out via a lawsuit, and Thomas was back in. Then in 2002, Thomas retired.

Today it's Hayward, Lodge and Edge with hired keyboard players and drummers. If you look carefully during a concert, you can see that they're all wearing hearing aids.

“you can see that they’re all wearing hearing aids.”
All that loud music for all those years, and plain old age, I’ll wager.
I know the feeling..
I wear them, too.
