I always liked Ray Thomas' flute work in this song. During the chorus, my late mother's comment was that the mellotron and voice combimation sounded like the souls suffering in purgatory.

The orchestra's insinuating itself into the song near the end was one of Tony Clark's best feats of engineering.

And Graeme Edge's poetry no doubt still makes your knees weak. Edge's voice has dipped an octave over the decades, but he still sounds good.
