FROM PREACHER'S KID TO FRONT-RUNNER: SCOTT WALKER'S SMALLTOWN ROOTS LED TO REPUTATION AS FISCAL HAWK
"Wisconsin State Journal" ^ | October 24, 2010 | Clay Barbour

To understand Scott Walker’s rise from state representative to county executive to front-runner for the office of Wisconsin governor, one must first know the meaning of a simple two-letter acronym: P.K.

The Milwaukee County executive and Republican nominee has reached the precipice of the state’s highest office with a message and approach that has roots in a rural Wisconsin church and the man who ministered there.

That’s because Walker was — and is — a preacher’s kid.

It’s a label that carries the burden of expectations, especially in a small town. More than a few have wilted under it or rebelled against it. Walker learned from it.

Growing up, he watched his father minister to people as they struggled with family and money problems, offering advice when warranted and a shoulder to lean on when needed.

“I watched how my father dealt with people, how he really listened to them, and I have always tried to emulate that in my daily life,” he said...

Just thought I’d post a little background on Scott Walker. This article is from a few months ago, right before the election.

If Walker holds the line and sticks by his principles, he’ll have a great career ahead of him. If he capitulates with the unions, he’s toast.

So far, so good.

This explains a lot of why he deals so well with being “under fire”!

Great idea!

And probably more prudent than a phone call. 8~)

lol. Sounds about right. The article goes on to say he learned a lot from his pastor father about dealing with the problems life throws at us with grace, compassion and common sense.

I just sent Mr. Walker an e-mail that read:

***

Dear Mr. Walker,

This e-mail’s intent is to THANK YOU for standing up for the people of Wisconsin who elected you to fix the fiscal crisis that is ongoing in your state.

Please note that the majority of people in this country stand behind you....myself included in the state of California.

Again, THANK YOU so much and God Bless you.

An interesting article. I’ve known Scott Walker for at least 10 years and this article contains many tidbits that I’ve never heard, or have forgotten.

Interesting that the only critic of Walker that the could find was Lee Holloway, otherwise known as “Slumlord” Holloway. Holloway has since gotten into trouble with the law and had to give up his bid to run for Walker’s vacant seat as County Executive.

I’m jes’ sayin’...

I hear that. Sometimes I can’t believe it. We are totally blessed to have a governor who is actually showing the Republicans how it’s done.
