Former Providence mayor-turned-ex-con Vincent Buddy Cianci yesterday left open the door to another run for public office on the heels of a new poll showing he remains one of the most popular politicians in Rhode Island.
Theres always a possibility of running for office, he said. But I have no intention right now of running for anything.
Cianci is barred from running for office in Rhode Island until 2012 but could seek federal office, a prospect that gained steam yesterday when a Providence TV station released a poll showing him within striking distance of freshman Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse (D-R.I.).
Despite Ciancis rap sheet which includes a 2002 federal conspiracy conviction and a 1984 assault on a contractor he suspected of having an affair with his wife the WPRI Channel 12 poll showed him with a 44 percent favorability rating and trailing Whitehouse, whos up for re-election next year, by just 16 points.
People are looking for leadership and change, Cianci said. And I think people have good memories of the time when I was mayor.

Go for it Buddy.
Whatever he was guilty of, Providence has gone down since he's been out of office, and that's a shame.

I recall his fiery address to the RNC at Detroit in 1980. He gave one of the best speeches.

I worked in SE Mass, on the RI line, when Roberts was Gov. The only thing for that wasn't purchased was his daughters virginity, bids were to low.

Back when he used to wear a coonskin cap. I loved it when he march in a parade or show up to an event with some hottie - he’d get the hottest stripper he could for a date.

I think there was the flavor of violence toward a woman in the story, iirc. But I was a kid and it was a Mass newspaper, so who knows.
And anyway, who cares? Facts dont matter now, if they ever did.
This is the part where the guy whispers into Dustin hoffman's ear. He says, perception management.

OTOH, I heard he was a pall bearer for Anthony Quinn.
And, he has his own brand of spaghetti sauce.
