resident Barack Obama seems to have fallen short on economic and immigration promises he made to Latino voters before he was elected.
Still, his approval ratings among Latino voters increased to 70 percent after falling as low as 57 percent in June 2010 in a Gallup poll, according to La Opinión.
The Spanish-language newspaper cited a poll conducted by its parent company ImpreMedia and Latino Decisions, a research group that focuses on issues facing Latinos.
In 2008, Obama garnered 67 percent of the Latino votes, according to La Opinión. The same poll also concluded that Latino voters would not automatically vote for Obama. Only about 43 percent said they would vote for him next year.
"There is no doubt that Obama has the ability to win the Latino vote, and he still has solid support within the community,'' Matt Barreto, a political science professor at the University of Washington, told La Opinión. "But when it comes to whether they will vote for him for sure, Latinos show a margin of doubt."
Barreto is also a pollster for Latino Decisions.

Viva Obama! Aye Caramba! Where be my Cheque??
Can’t fix stupid
And, if the GOP continues to pander to Hispanics via Illegal Alien Amnesty....they will lose easily to Obama.
The GOP in 200 ran the most pro-Illegal/Anti-American candidate in John McCain...and he could not get even 1/3 of the Hispanic vote
Any GOP member who mentions “we need to get more Hispanic voters” is only pandering to the Illegal Alien lobby, and the La Raza/MEChA/Hispanic Ku Klux Klan groups.
Let Obama have the Hispanic vote...if the GOP is smart, they would stick to conservative, pro-America values. Pandering to Hispanic Hate Groups and Illegal Aliens is a sure GOP loser
The native Latinos want the border closed and the illegals sent home.
I see people posit that from time to time. Yet many/most 'native Latinos' align with LaRaza, MEChA, the Hispanic Caucus etc.
Not quite true.
Great discomfort can fix stupid, in some people anyway.
America is so rich right now that "great discomfort" is hard to come by.
The system is set up to keep "stupid" and "discomfort" well separated. That's because "stupid" votes for the party that keeps them from a full appreciation of "discomfort."
Article conveniently dodges the fact that the coming Blacks vs. Hispanics battle to see who gets first dibs on dividing up the spoils of the welfare state is the major fault line waiting to erupt within the Democrat Party.
I hope you’re not calling all latinos stupid!
Latinos have to eat and fill up their gas tanks too. I suspect many will convert as food and gas prices continue to go through the roof.
Wait until $5.00 a gallon gas and $5.00 loaves of bread hits home then lets see what they think. Both are very possible this year.
That's discomfort (see above).
Should say: Illegal aliens increasingly support one of their own.
won’t be enough to replace the white voters he’s losing...
Indeed. It is much like the folks that keep telling us the Jews have finally had enough of liberal/Democrat weakness in regards to Israel and are on the verge of voting Republican. It never happens. Jews blind allegiance to Democrats is worse than ever.
Latino's are solidly in the Democrat camp - and this trend is only accelerating. We are losing the demographic war and we either need to find a way to appeal to Hispanics in a completely different and more effective way (without promises of amnesty or "comprehensive" immigration reform), or we need to continue winning ever greater shares of the white vote.
The Race Card and the Illegal Alien card - IF these results are accurate - which I doubt.
Stupid will sooner or later overtake the world — it cannot be any other way. It is the history of mankind.
That’s also the reason that there will come an end to this all.
You mean the older, male white vote. Problem is, there aren't enough.
Only the illegal vote.
after another 2 years of being unemployed they will be more than ready to kick the zero to the curb.
Ah, you beat me to it. Birds of a feather...
