Posters for Russia military holiday 'showed Chinese jets'

(AFP) – 14 hours ago

SAINT PETERSBURG — Hundreds of posters decorating Russian streets for a military holiday accidentally replaced Russian planes with Chinese fighter jets, an official admitted Tuesday.

Posters displayed in the northwestern city of Saint Petersburg showed a plane against a national flag. But instead of a Russian jet, it was in fact a Chinese Chengdu J-10, or Vigorous Dragon.

The slip, reproduced in around 250 posters, was an error by the designer, who was unfamiliar with military planes, said the head of the city's media committee, Alexander Korennikov.

"It was the designer's fault. If you are not a specialist in military hardware, it is an easy thing to do," he said.

"The problem was that the images were printed and put up before being checked and agreed with the media committee."

The mistake was spotted at the end of last week and the posters were due to be removed by the end of Tuesday, on the eve of the holiday, Korennikov said.

On Wednesday, Russians celebrate the Day of the Defenders of the Fatherland, a public holiday when women traditionally give cards a

I still remember a thread months back when the Indian Navy “mistakenly” included a US Navy carrier in one of their recruiting posters.

Then again, this is the same Chicom military which included movie scenes from Top Gun’ and tried to pass it off as a dogfight propaganda film.

Its Defense Of The Motherland Day.

It honors Russia’s servicemen.

Its the Russian equivalent of Memorial Day.

Its also become a bit of a "Men's Day" holiday since March 8th is "Women's Day." Having grown up in the US during the Cold War, I feel a little strange when someone wishes me a "Happy Defense of the Motherland Day!"

That’s true... we have nothing like it here. Valentine’s Day is simply a day for selfish women to treat men like dogs. The day isn’t about love! At least Russian women show they appreciate men. Can’t say the same for American women, for whom our annual rite is all about them.
