Walker has been asked about this several times and has said each time that it’s a non starter. He has a very powerful line item veto that would practically allow him to get rid of this should it somehow pass.
Yep, exactly. The WI Governor is one of the most powerful Governor positions in the country. This amendment will die quickly.
Good.
Nothing like snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.
The veto thing is a nice idea. Get the Democrats to accept the bill as is except with 2013 for the restoration of CB. Then veto out 2013. Seems far fetched but the Democrats did something similar with Regional Transit Authorities (RTA). The Democrat legislature created RTA’s with the authority to raise a 1/2 percent county sales tax. But only with an OK by county referendum. Then Democrat Gov. Doyle vetoed out the referendum language. There was no attempt to override. RTA’s an appointed unelected body can now raise a county’s sale tax without any other approval in WI. It was a set up.
