OHNO SELECTED AS GRAND MARSHAL
America’s most decorated winter sports athlete to rev up NASCAR event at PIR

PrintEmail ShareRecord-setting short-track speed skater and Season 4 Dancing with the Stars champ Apolo Anton Ohno – a national spokesman for SUBWAY® – has been named Grand Marshal for the upcoming SUBWAY Fresh Fit 500™ at Phoenix International Raceway on Sunday, Feb. 27.

“I am excited to serve as the Grand Marshal of the SUBWAY Fresh Fit 500™ and be a part of such a big event,” said Ohno. “Since I started working with SUBWAY®, I have had the opportunity to be a part of several unique experiences, and having the chance to give the most famous racing command, ‘Gentleman, start your engines,’ is going to be something to remember.”

In addition to saying the most famous words in racing, Ohno’s duties as Grand Marshal will include working with PIR officials and SUBWAY® to help welcome fans, drivers, and teams to Phoenix for the first West Coast race of the 2011 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series season.

The newest famous fan of SUBWAY®, Ohno will compete in his first marathon, the ING New York City Marathon, in November at the urging of renowned SUBWAY® commercial star Jared Fogle. Fogle completed the marathon in 2010.

At 28 years old, Ohno is the most decorated American winter sports athlete of all-time with well over 30 medals won in international competition for short-track speed skating. A 12-time U.S. National Champion, Ohno has been the top U.S. short-track speed skater for the past decade. Recently, he was ranked in the top 10 of Business Week’s 2011 Top 100 Most Powerful Athletes and published an autobiography, Zero Regrets: Be Greater Than Yesterday, which reached the New York Times best-seller list.

In addition to his speed skating achievements, Ohno paired with dancing partner Julianne Hough to win Dancing with the Stars in 2007. Ohno has also appeared as a guest judge on the Bravo Network’s fashion reality show "Project Runway."

Trevor Bayne, who won the 53rd Daytona 500™ just one day after his 20th birthday on Sunday, will head a star-studded cast of honored guests for Phoenix International Raceway’s annual “Night of Champions” charity event on Feb. 24 at the Arizona Biltmore. He will be joined by NASCAR Nationwide Series driver and Valley local Danica Patrick, three-time NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champion Darrell Waltrip, and former IndyCar driver Lyn St. James to help PIR President Bryan R. Sperber celebrate the start of the 2011 NASCAR season and the SUBWAY Fresh Fit 500™ event weekend in Phoenix. More info here....

Using the site Pete gave me, in 32 bit mode I get 6.55 download and .26 upload. Is this good or not?

In 64 bit mode, I can’t use the site. It keeps jumping to a Java install, even after I installed the Java 64 bit.

I got 8.43mbs down and .48 up on the x Mission test. It’s not that great but it is what Suddenstink gives me.

I am so confused over last week, would someone give me a winner this week?
Heck, I'll take 3rd.

Right now I am going with a hunch, Martin.

What is fun here, my guess is as good as yours.

Still have no idea what this is all about. No matter how many times I’ve asked what this means, I’ve NEVER gotten an answer. But that’s OK. Sorry I bothered any of you with this.

mostly in truck driver terms (may or may not be true...)

your computer can get info from the internet pretty fast, the natl avg speed in the US is 4 meg most of my stuff runs about 2.5 to 3.5

the speed your puter can upload to the web is slower

with qwest i was at about .5 meg with clear wire I’m at about 2,25
this laptop with T mobile on a 4g system I’m at 3.5 down 2.5 up

its the difference between pages painting and BAM the page is there....

I think...

Let me make a fool of myself trying to expain those numbers for you Rocc. They are a measurement of the speed that your ISP is able to transmit data to and your computer is able to process. The first number is your download speed and the second is the upload speed when send email etc. You and I do pretty well considering we are stuck with Suddenlink cable but some folks are stealing a connection from a University somewhere in Utah and he gets speeds of 54.783mbps down and 18.967mbps sending me spam. He also has the advantage of young savvy teenagers living in the neighborhood to help him with the latest technical gadgets.

Rest assured that within seconds of this post there will many many knowledgeable FReepers that will explain it correctly for both of us. I predict it will snow on PIR this weekend and the track will freeze over as we could have snow down to sea level here in the Redwoods

The laptop was 48mbps down and 56 up when Pete and I ran against xmission during the race last weekend. I don’t know why the iPhone is so slow.

Turning dark, windy and cold here in Salt Lake. Gonna snow.
