[history]
VAIL First lady Michelle Obama enjoyed locally grown fare at a Vail restaurant Saturday night before hitting the slopes of Vail Mountain early Sunday.
Obama and her two daughters, 9-year-old Sasha and 12-year-old Malia together with some family friends are spending the Presidents Day holiday weekend in Vail. President Obama did not make the trip.
The first lady went to Restaurant Kelly Liken in Vail Village on Saturday night, dining on a pickled pumpkin salad with arugula and a braised ancho-chile short rib with hominy wild mushrooms and sauteed kale.
Yes, it's true, the first lady dined at our restaurant tonight and seemed to really enjoy it, chef and owner Kelly Liken said.

Another lesson in why proper undergarments are so important. (shakes head)

I don’t eat what she talks about—I haven’t changed my eating habits because of anything she says. We can grow our own food if it ever comes to that.
My kids and grandkids are not affected by what she says, either. They are either in private schools or take their lunches with them.
Let her pontificate all she wants—it keeps her busy and out of our hair about other things—and hopefully she will be tossed on the ash heap of history in a couple of years.
So many “causes”—so little time...

Lol! I still dont know what arugula is.
It is a very strong, almost bitter broad leafed Italian green.
My grandmother brought some seeds over from Sicily but her tribe called it “ladeek” and it was much stronger.
It was bitter but when she served it in a salad, it would be topped with hot bacon grease, onion and “dago red” wine. Still eat it today but not many folks like the strength when compared to the commercial “arugula”.
Sounds great! But the Obamas have kind of ruined Arugla for me.
