IIRC, the Saudis don’t put out the light sweet stuff? So even if the Saudis condescend to ramp up production a bit, that won’t be a panacea.

LOL! I took a look out my window and now that I'm not out shovelling it (and, wow, was this snow heavy), it really is lovely outside :)

Though I bet we'll see a power outage if the wind picks up.

” So even if the Saudis condescend to ramp up production a bit, that won’t be a panacea. “

Not to mention the unconfirmed, but persistent, reports over the past couple of weeks that Saudi Arabia may have been overstating its Reserve Capacity...

(I hope you’re not heating with oil..)

LOL! But here’s the deal- when we’re just beside ourselves with humidity and heat in August- you’ll be enjoying pleasant days and cool nights ;)

Of course if the BoA really knows that Libyan oil production may shut down for an indefinite period then all bets are off..

Getting pretty bad in Tripoli guys:

1321: ShababLibya tweets: “The situation in Tripoli is NOW***** critical, gun shots tear gas and arrests.”

1315: At least five protesters have been killed in Tripoli’s Janzour district, a local resident tells Reuters.

1311: More on the shooting reported by eyewitnesses in Tripoli’s suburbs. Privately-owned Libyapress website reports that worshippers went out to demonstrate peacefully after Friday prayers and were met by a large number of security forces who clashed with the protesters, using live rounds against them

Families of Lockerbie dead hope Moammar Gadhafi is held accountable

The article mentions some of the families being in contact with the Brits and the Scots, but what about the Obama admin and Foggy Bottom? No mention. Inquiring minds want to know.

we’re expecting 80’s today.

I put on a sweater to come in to work this morning, but I'll just be in short sleeves the rest of the day. :-)

Libya only produces 2% of the world’s oil supply, so I don’t think this is too much of a problem...
Libyan oil is light sweet crude (not very common) and goes principally to Europe, which generally lacks capacity to refine other grades of oil. In terms of volume, Libya’s 2% is somewhat small, but it will have an outsized impact.

Europe is in tough shape. Greece, Portugal, Italy, etc are still shaky, and a big hit in the energy sector is going to hurt.

1329: Defence expert David Hartwell tells BBC World Service that the remaining pro-Gaddafi forces are “likely to be fairly heavily armed,” with tanks and artillery. Just what weapons the anti-Gaddafi forces have is “a great unknown”, he says, because nobody knows how many barracks and army bases the protesters have looted in the east.

I've spent some time in AZ. It's really true about the dry heat deal :)

Of course if the BoA really knows that Libyan oil production may shut down for an indefinite period then all bets are off..

With a FWIW from this link...

Light Sweet Crude Futures

Places the light sweet crude is found include, in addition to Texas and Louisiana, substantial deposits in Alaska - possibly placing the onus of energy concerns on protected wildlife refuge areas. Outside of the United States, it comes from Canada, China, Australia and Algeria.

And by the way, anyone know why the UN Security Council session on Libya today is closed door? Are closed door sessions unusual?

I think whenever they’re going to be “frank” and “open” they shut the doors- God forbid anyone knows what they really think- wouldn’t it be great if Wikileaks did a doc dump on the UN?
