Sounds like another “union” thing.

Detroit Symphony pictured below in 2002.
I particularly enjoyed "Drive-By in A Minor, Op. 38"

Sounds like another union thing. It was, but most symphonies ARE unionized.

A good friend of mine is the first cellist with the Detroit Symphony. I told him last summer, when he was playing at the Seattle Chamber Music Festival, that he needed to get out of Detroit before it all crashed down.
At least he is the cellist with the new Ehnes String Quartet which is premiering in Atlanta in March.

No one will miss their concerts.
Anybody been to Detroit lately?
I have, on my way to Canada thru Ambassidor Bridge.
THAT CITY LOOKS LIKE A WARZONE!

Imagine their surprise when nobody cares.

I just got back from the U.P. where I went snowmobiling,
Went up I 75 and avoided Detroit. NO reason to go there unless you want to get carjacked.
Frankenmuth though was fabulous.

Detroit can’t even keep a full-service supermarket. How can it support a symphony orchestra?

I’ve never been to Detroit, but I’ve seen pictures of the abandoned houses there. I don’t where the symphony is located, but if it’s in a bad area, they’re lucky that patrons are willing to go there.
To: NoLibZone
Exactly, the are complaining about higher medical costs, but both sides in this probably supported Obama care.
