Just use the damn card as a Visa like most banks let you. You hit ‘credit’ instead of ‘debit’ and don’t put in your pin. Heck, Chase pays me 1-3% back from using it that was on a bunch of catagories too. I’ve always used it this way and have no idea why anyone would not.

My small-time (ok, they have been growing like mad) local bank gives me a dime every time I use my debit card.

Wells Fargo is now offering incentives to use the ATM card as a credit card. First thought was that the bank makes more off the merchant if the card is used as a credit card instead of an ATM transaction. I have at times used my ATM as a credit card but when the transaction gets to the bank it is treated as an ATM purchase.

banks make a lot of money from debit cards, they won’t jeopardize that revenue stream.

cash is good though, I’m moving that way regardless

I haven't used a bank in 15 years. I use a credit union and have been very happy. No checking fees, free online banking and bill pay, discounted loans, etc. I don't know why anyone would use a bank...

Thanks for the reminder, From. I need to pull out a couple of k’s just to be able to backup my checks now (see earlier post). Annoying, but it doesn’t cost me anything and I usually dress and drive in a way that makes me quite uninteresting to the bad guys.

Retailers should start offering a 3% discount for check or cash purchaes.

Remember the banks make a 3%-7% fee off debit or credit cards. This cost goes into your overall costs, time for retailers to offer cash discounts.

Based on a personal experience this past Friday I would have to vote yes on this action. A female named Sue Hong used a debit card with her name and another person’s debit card number on it to buy jewelry and clothing in Thornhill Ontario - two charges totaling $1800 and change. Card she used was for my grandson - who is not a boy named Sue - and who resides in the middle of the U.S. What an ordeal this is going to be. At least with a $100 limit in place it might have taken her longer to accomplish this horrible theft.

this is already in place for gas stations here. 75 buck limit. any more and you have to re-swipe...debit or credit.
besides the gas station owners,it doesn't affect too many but truckers right now.
Gas goes to 4 bucks a gallon or more, different story

What good are they, if they don’t honor the balance in your account?

Remember, banking is in reality legalized crime in the first place! They create money out of thin air with an accounting entry, ‘loan’ you the money to buy a house or whatever, and then confiscate real property if you don’t pay them back with interest on time!
