China tries to stamp out 'Jasmine Revolution'

BEIJING – Jittery Chinese authorities staged a concerted show of force Sunday to squelch a mysterious online call for a "Jasmine Revolution" apparently modeled after pro-democracy demonstrations sweeping the Middle East.

"We want food, we want work, we want housing, we want fairness" — a slogan that highlights common complaints among ordinary Chinese.

[I]nflation is no joking matter for China's Communist Party rulers, as soaring costs could trigger social instability. "The Communist Party came into power in 1949 in part due to hyperinflation after World War II that broke the back of the Chinese economy and the Nationalist regime," says Patrick Chovanec, associate professor at Tsinghua University School of Economics and Management in Beijing. "They know they nearly lost power in 1989 in part due to anger over rising inflation that fueled the Tiananmen protests."

You see it wasn't just students wanting their own Statue of Liberty. It's always been an existential matter.

The taking of power ("agrarian reform" as our pinkos called it) and the Communist "Great Leaps Forward" that killed tens of millions of Chinese citizens were contemporaneous events for me.

The brutal and depraved Chi-Coms are going to lead Red China to genuine greatness? I don't think so.

On Sunday, searches for "jasmine" were blocked on China's largest Twitter-like microblog, and status updates with the word on popular Chinese social networking site Renren.com were met with an error message and a warning to refrain from postings with "political, sensitive ... or other inappropriate content."

Anyone in China who is a fan of Seals and Croft and likes Summer Breeze is a politcal subversive.

Lets not forget the “Hundred Flowers Revolution, the GREAT LEAP FORWARD”(a real disaster) and the “RED GUARDS” all before Tianeman Square. All failed.
