TEHRAN, Iran—Iran freed two German journalists arrested four months ago in connection with a highly publicized stoning case, and Germany's foreign minister went to Tehran on Saturday to bring the reporters home in a rare top-level visit by a Western government representative.

An Iranian court threw out the journalists' 20-month prison sentence Saturday, commuting it to a fine of $50,000 each and clearing the way for their release, state media reported.

This means that Germany caved in some other way. I wonder what they gave in on?

Money, technology, weapons?

Whatever else Germany might’ve promised aside, a few things are clear so far:

The two German reporters spent 4 months in jail, paid 100K in total, which the Iranians authorities will share among themselves, while a grateful German Foreign Minister kissed the Iranian authorities’ butt & the Iranian State TV reported that the German reporters, after all, “deserved to have their punishment commuted & ENJOY ISLAMIC MERCY”!

I should really congratulate the Iranians!

People who are stupid enough to go to Iran are not worth the ransom money.

The Iranians should pay us to take them back.

I think this is different from the two hikers that were being held.

IRI likes to inprison foreigners, so it’s hard to keep them straight sometimes.
