Flood waters have receded in the Ontario County village of Honeoye, but not before flooding Main Street for a few hours.
Early Friday morning, officials with the Town of Richmond noticed ice jamming in Mill Creek. Because the ice cannot be broken up without a DEC permit, an officer was called to see the problem for himself.
By the time the permit was granted, John Chrisman's insurance agency was flooded up to the outdoor windows. Damage is estimated at $10,000 to $20,000.
Chrisman does not have flood insurance. He says if the DEC acted faster, the business could have been saved.

Yet another example of the “efficiency” of government.
Kind of opposite from the problem we have here.
FEMA changed floodplain maps amd put a bunch of us in flood zones and insurance companies want to charge higher rates as a result. There’s no chance of a flood here. I live about 4 feet above the waterline which is about 2 feet higher than the crest of the dam.
Fortunately my congressman just introduced HR 700 yesterday. H.R.700 : To provide a moratorium on the issuance of flood insurance rate maps, to assist property owners in adapting to flood insurance rate map changes, and for other purposes.
I bought a property on one acre of land. NOone disclosed that the backyard was on an “archeologically sensitive wetland”
Come to find out I have to have studies and permits galore JUST to build a garage! Filling it in is out of the question. The ONLY reason it’s a “wetland” is because uber huge dairy farms surrounding my property have “tiled” their fields and divert the water onto my land; that and the town dumps their colvert into my property as well!
And the DEC has the NERVE to state that there is an overabundance of Canada Geese when their very policies of declaring every upturned bottle cap a “protected wetland” has lead to the overpopulation!!
